Hey thanks, Tiki_Rob! If you're willing, I'd like to help you get those scripts transcribed. (i.e., have you send the DVDs and I'll make copies / send copies to me / etc.) Is it okay if I email you about this? Also, how have the previous episodes been, translation-wise?

GATSU, if you need help with setting up your VCR, let me know.
For a visual reference, Here's a Coaxial cable (the kind you screw on to a little spindle-looking stud thing):
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3909674
These are the aforementioned spindle-looking stud things:

And here are the ports for AV Cables (sometimes called RCA Jacks - what Jing and I assume you have on your TV):
http://www.itsacon.net/articles/vidcon/images/RCA_sockets.jpg
Your TV should only have the top three, or at least Yellow and White (adding a Red one makes it Stereo sound instead of Mono).

To record Lupin, you'll need to have your setup like this:
Antenna =coaxial or RCA=> Converter Box =coaxial or RCA=> VCR =Coaxial or RCA=> TV

Hopefully that helps, but it sounds like you have some idea of what you're doing.

LTT+Jing: Thanx.

I'll wait out tiki first, and if he's busy, I'll look into that format. I think I got the gist of it, though. You forgot one, though, Reed. I also need a blank tape. I wonder if those are still sold in stores.

Wal-Mart carries VHS blanks. Their site has a 4-pack of Maxell blanks for $10:

The site's down at this link as of this writing, though.

Their in-store packs might vary in price, quantity, and brand though - I don't remember what brand my Wal-Mart carries, but I don't remember it being the Maxells shown on the site. They only carry one kind of any VHS tape, though.

Don't get too excited. JP companies like being contrarian, and TMS might change its mind and only let the Geneon-subbed stuff air on tv for precisely the reason that they don't want people uploading that shit on Youtube, when there's still a chance for selling the show on DVD in the states one day. [And double-dipping in Japan.]

That seems unlikely, since there's been no announcement about a break and since the first series already aired, despite not ever being licensed by an American company.

Umm for those of you who may be interested.... i have through ep 132 subbed in english... mind you the subs aren't very good but the video is and it's pretty watchable.. there is a torrent that exists and obviously I am seeding...
Is it wrong to steal Lupin merchandise or just hilariously ironic??

Those are just Hong Kong bootlegs with awful translations. We're looking for the newer, higher-quality ones.

Yeah, we're having trouble getting people to fansub this show. If a professional translation exists already, we want it.

And speaking of which! The new episodes appear to start on April 6th, which is this coming Tuesday, if I'm not mistaken.

Here's the broadcast schedule for it, as shown on UTB's Lupin page (bold titles are previously un-subbed ones):
Quote
Apr 30th :The Famous Painting Theft Ultra Operation
Apr 29th :The Combat Magnum Scattered in the Wasteland
Apr 28th :The Day the Old Man Died
Apr 27th :Find the Treasure of Lupin I
Apr 26th :Lupin's Gourmet Heaven
Apr 23rd :From the Ghost Ship with Love
Apr 22nd :Operation Great Wall of China Invader
Apr 21st :Madame and a Thieves' Quartet
Apr 20th :The Girl Who Travels Through Time
Apr 19th :Play the Thieves' Symphony
Apr 16th :Lupin's Big South Pole-North Pole Adventure
Apr 15th :When the Devil Beckons to Lupin
Apr 14th :The Mysterious Nightlight Mask Appears
Apr 13th :ICPO Secret Directive
Apr 12th :Leave the Revenge to Lupin
Apr 9th :Lupin in the Wild West
Apr 8th :Hostage Rescue Operation: Daddio
Apr 7th :Fujiko, Men are A Sorry Lot!
Apr 6th :The Last Thing Sent in Was A Chinese Cup Noodle

Apr 5th :baton death march

It's nice to know the new shit was confirmed, and that TMS didn't ask for money for the sub-jobs or something, forcing the broadcaster to loop the older episodes. So ok, I allegedly got the equipment, and put myself in a situation where asking for a friggin' VHS tape is even more embarassing than buying a porn DVD. Not that I would know anything about that, of course.  ::) ["Hey, baby, wanna see my hi-fi?"  :P]  I'm gonna see if the VCR works, and then I'll google some online instructions on how to record with a VCR, and hopefully, I'll be set. Now that I think about it, though, my DVD player might have DVD-RW capabilities, but I'm not entirely sure. Oh, well, this was probably cheaper....I guess it'll help me appreciate what fansub groups went through back in the day.

Ok, Reed, thanks for letting me play my VCR and DVD player with the converter box. Now, given my schedule, I'm only available to provide a copy for this week. [Plus, I probably wanna keep the Miyazaki eps, given that I gave away the Streamline versions.] So I will try to record all four new eps for this week and send 'em over ASAP. I need to save some of the tapes, too, since I got school on Monday nights. But if I make it to the Superman episode, and I notice anything changed, I'll let you know.
