On their facebook they commented about possibly doing it because of fan demand.

Discotek Media: We may do the first series on blu ray one day. Not 100% sure yet. But many have asked even though it has the frozen grain. Maybe when costs of pressing and authoring blu rays come down then we will look into it.

I'm just crossing my fingers for a '77 red jacket Lupin re-release.

From what I heard, the Japanese Blu-Rays are of questionable quality.

Actually the season 1 blu-ray and season 2 blu-ray are both quite garbage, but season 1 is less so. It has frozen grain in places that is very jarring in certain scenes. Series 2 has been DNR'd into oblivion and is just horrid looking. In both cases the Lupin the Box DVDs wipe the floor with the BDs (Discotek uses Lupin the Box masters for Series 1 iirc).

The Blu-ray HD masters and the Discotek/Lupin the Box HD remasters are the same. If you watch the LTB video close-up, like on a PC monitor, you can see the grain freeze. It's especially obvious when placed side-by-side with the older DVDs/bootlegs.

Ah, I didn't know they used the same master. I unfortunately don't own Lupin the Box (yet).    :(
