Project revival: A new forum banner
« on: January 31, 2015, 08:02:49 am »
I don't know if I am in the right section (the forum related sections are closed to me since I'm not
an admin) but I had this thought for a long, long time and I finally wanted to share it with you and know
you reception.

As you may have noticed, while not completely dead, the forum hasn't been very active for quite some time (like,
three years ?) and while the occaional specials, Koike marvels and speculations on the fourth series have livened up
the forum a bit those last few months, we are still very quite, as a community.

As I am not a specialist in terms of forum managing, I can only contribute with the few abilities I have, mainly drawing
and graphic design.

So, to get to the point, I think it's time for a new, fresher banner for the forum. I could volonteer to make it myself
but, for multiple reasons, I prefer you first give me your opinion and second, that the artists of the forum propose their own designs. This could be the occasion to plan a little contest, wich would have a positive effect on the forum's activity.

So, dear fellow members, what is your opinion on my proposition ?

PS: Obviously, if you disagree with my ideas, I ask you to express it respectfully and politely.

Oh, that's a great idea. Maybe have Blue Jacket Lupin in the banner since that is the new series and the Fujiko series-style fujiko, etc..

Not that I'm the forums' current owner or anything, but I'd advise you should probably not use "Lupin the Third.com Forums" as the title, since it's not hosted there anymore.

Feel free to make a new banner. Make several; I can always rotate them. DM me when you have something.

I'd be up for attempting to make one :)

We probably need to know some rules to stick to though, especially if there is going to be a rotation so there is consistency.

The 2 that jump to mind are the dimensions and the text. The current banners dimensions seem to be 974x140 pixels? And the text would be something like 'Lupin III Encycolpedia' or 'Lupin the Third Encyclopedia' at a guess?

The current dimensions of the banner are fine, as a guideline. I can always tweak what comes in if need be.

For text, don't really care if it is closely tied to the overall site. I've always considered the forums their own entity, so I would be fine with "Lupin the Forums", "Lupin III Forums", whatever.

So glad your reception is positive, guys. :)

And I am also happy to see some who are willing to make some banners. :)

As I said, I don't insist on making it myself, first because I want as many different artists
participating as possible and second because I have so many art projects right now, it's hard to find the time.

Still, I do have an idea that could work, with the banner format. So I might do a premilinary piece in a few weeks.

Again, thank you for your feedback and motivation. :D

Does anyone have an update of the new forum banner they are trying to create? I was excited to see what everyone can come up with and it will be a shame if nothing comes out of this project revival.

Again, if there is nothing done yet is because. first: I have an incredibly busy schedule this semester and second: because I wanted to see other people try. ^^

But you are absolutely right, this would be a shame if nothing is made. Even more so, since I am the one who instigated it !

So I'll try something in the coming days. ;)

I'm working on one but like Red Dear I am very busy. So far I have a nice red font with a black outline that I think matches the Japanese logo, and Goemon, I am trying to find the others in the same style that also match, which is surprisingly harder to find than I thought, at least in good enough quality.

My plan was to do a few of them, with the cast each time but from different periods. A manga version would be pretty cool too.

Hey everyone, I finished a banner finally, sorry it took so long!

It might need a little clean up but what does everyone think? Any suggestions on if it could be improved?

Thank you for your creation ! :D

I think the only two problems I see are: the cutting of the pictures, wich looks a teeny bit messy (wich is also a problem seen in the current banner) and that Jigen and Zenigata don't belong to the same series as the others wich makes a bit of confusion. Of course, people who are not familiar might not see the difference but have all the characters from the same series brings a better sense of "completeness".
^^

But I like the way Zenigata is on the title, and I suppose they aren't pictures of him from the first series doing this pose.

The other option is to have all the characters coming from red jacket. That's really a question of choice. ;)

But I'm so happy this revival project gives inspiration to fans. :)
