Wow, lures...  Who the hell came up with that bright idea?

As I recall, that same fishing lure company had a line of Simpsons lures. I'm guessing Pioneer was just testing the waters with licensing, but maybe the lures company asked them if they had any franchises to license out?

Pun intended? ;)

I can't imagine the lure company would approach an anime company for a license.  The Simpsons is a recognized brand across most every demographic.  Anime... I don't see a lot of cross-over between the demographics that watch it and those that actually go out and fish.  Always struck me as a way to try to get a bit of licensing money back by having someone else pay to use sub-license the property and have them expend their own capital cranking up branded merchandise.

Either way, it certainly is one of the more novel bits of anime merchandise actually produced for the US market.

This "Relic Lures" is a perculiar company. They were formed in 2001. They licensed only a handful of properties, and they haven't updated their site since around their licensing of Lupin back in 2003.

For a little flashback, here's both sides of the sell sheet on it:

My question is: if they're basically out of business, why bother keeping the website up?

As for the pun being intentional...you give me far too much credit, sir.
