The Animated GIF Thread
« on: January 23, 2007, 09:45:38 pm »
Back on the old Thieves in Paradise board we had a whole thread dedicated to animated gifs and icons. I thought I'd start a new one. Here's some of my old avatars. I have to dig up some of my others but these will do for now.

Feel free to copy these and use them...just be sure to tell anyone who asks that I made 'em.

Feel free to add your own. Or make a request.

Those are great, what font did you use for her name?

That's Serpentine Bold.  You see in in lots and lots of ads.

I actually have a few more animated gifs of Fujiko that I would've considered as avatars here, but even resized the file sizes are bigger than the board rules specify.

Maybe I'll post them later.

The 64x64 avatar "rule" is really just a suggestion, but you can really use any avatar that doesn't make the user ID tables on the left side to be any bigger than they are at default. Basically, any relatively small size that isn't going to "break" the boards for most users. 64x64 is just a conservative, safe size I recommend.

I'm mostly thinking of Double Jump Books' forums--have you SEEN their avatars and sigs? Holy crap! http://www.doublejumpbooks.com/yabbse/index.php?PHPSESSID=af230e808605e259e574ad07d72710ef&topic=4262.0
Look at xescalation's pics at the bottom(!)

Trying to read boards like that infuriates me. :(

EDIT: As a reference, I'd say Genetic_Mishap's "Zenigata is Metal" avatar is probably about as big as you'd want to go, at maximum.

i'd like to make a request for a GIF.

From Episode 0 First Contact, in the opening credits when Lupin is loading his gun with his teeth. So awesome.
and they're serving, like...chicken... in a pan...with some... salad...and a... glass of milk? To drink?

I hope it turned out all right. The aliasing on my copy is horrible, so I had to piece it together frame by frame.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

There's a way to make an animated gif without going frame by frame?!?

Normally I just play it in slo-mo, tap the screencap button like mad, and then import all the frames into Imageready at the same time. Cut some of the few with bad aliasing and the repeats, and it's set.

This one I had to do several passes to get the required keyframes to not look like crap. And since they weren't all caught in one sweep, I had to piece them together.

I don't know what that is. I use VLC- you can download it for free.
http://www.videolan.org/

You'll also need Adobe Imageready- which is very NOT free.
