Watching the episode of "The Muppet Show" starring Shields & Yarnell the other night made me realize that whoever plays Lupin will have to be VERY physical indeed. I couldn't help but laugh when Robert Shields (an insanely good mime) did a gorilla and a lizard imitation in quick order - put me in mind of Lupin's many animal-like antics.
And for the first time, I thought "Damn, he could have pulled it off."

About twenty-five years too late for that, though, but it gave me an idea of what kind of performer it would take!

Ironically after I posted this thread, the fat guy from the film ended up being in the new Get Smart.   ;D
