Title: Lupin the Links!
Post by: GATSU on July 30, 2009, 05:34:09 pm
Considering how, uh, prolific link threads have been, I'm posting this here since we seem to have a repeated problem of faintly-related Lupin links, usually a handful a week. Unless it's a ZOMG HUEG announcement {new Lupin special, TV series, and so on}, or you have more than a sentence to preface it with, it goes here. I'm also merging a thread or two in here. ~Geist

Gatsu, First Warning: You've been doing this a lot lately, and it's time something was said.
Spam.
Sitewhoring is allowed ONLY in the sitewhore / random links thread (http://www.lupinthethird.net/forums/index.php?topic=13.0). If you want to post a link, you have to SAY SOMETHING ABOUT IT and not just post the URL and call it a day.

Actually, if you're going to post at all, please take the time to write something more than a couple words

Lupin the Monkey Majik (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-08-04/monkey-majik-makes-music-video-with-lupin-iii-anime).
To elaborate on this post, because I want people to know why they should check it out, because I think it's cool, let me quote the first paragraph of the article it links to on Anime News Network:

Quote
The Japanese-Canadian rock group Monkey Majik has created an animated music video in which the band members meet the Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, and Fujiko characters from Monkey Punch's Lupin III manga and anime franchise. The Oricon website is already streaming the full 187-second video on Wednesday.

And here's a link to the video itself, on Oricon: http://tv.oricon.co.jp/pvj/090805_10.html (http://tv.oricon.co.jp/pvj/090805_10.html)

And IMO it's a really nicely done video, too. Character designs look a little like a cross between Alcatraz Connection (in fact, the song covered is the Alcatraz Connection English-lyrics version of the themesong), Mamo, and Monkey Punch's manga art, and the general feel of the animation reminds me just a tad of Gorillaz' video for 19-2000.

Enjoy!  ;D

Aw, yeah. The animation is gorgeous, seriously. The character designs allow for strange, fluid expressions and are a throwback to the older stuff you mentioned, and they look great for it. If the specials/OVAs of late were this good, Lupin's popularity would skyrocket, I guarantee it.

The Monkey Punch-ness of the character designs was probably intentional, as they were used previously in (the sadly fansub-less)Mankatsu and in "Samba Temperado" on Play the Lupin; both of which were based on Monkey Punch manga.

And I agree, that is an awesome video, by the way.  Very funny.

You need Quicktime 7 to view 'em, but here's a collection of Adult Swim's Lupin promos and openings. (http://asfdotcom.net/download/lupin.php)
They have 'em for their other shows, past and present, too.  My favorite is the "Intro Promo".  Having never seen that opening before at the time it aired, I thought it was one of the coolest things ever.

Hey! Check this out! They have an OFFICIAL music video from a group called Monkey Majik fearturing Lupin and gang! It's freakin' awesome! In fact, the style of the characters are more like the Pilot Film version. Especially Fujiko who has shorter hair than usual. But, seriously, I think this is epic win!  :D

If any of you haven't already been to the Download thread, our Dr. Furball managed to find a Russian site that has the raw Japanese episodes of Monkey Punch's Mankatsu here: http://www.lupinthethird.net/forums/index.php?topic=50.msg14927#msg14927

Just a heads up: The torrent is a HUGE file, so it'll take some time to download (and you'll need to make some space on your computer beforehand). For any of you who download it, be sure to seed it for everyone as long as you can!

Not sure if any of you guys have seen this before or if anybody's posted this yet since I looked around, but you guys have got to check this out! Someone just posted this awesome first-person shooter called "Lupin the 3rd - The Shooting" or something like that. I wish I was able to play this arcade gem! T_T I think one of the coolest things about it is that every level is based off of the episodes from the 2nd series. Like "Disoriented Express", "The Yam is Mighter Than The Sword", "Lair of the Land Sharks", and "The Island of Dr. Derange", and others. It looks like it's a lot of fun!^^

Not to sound like a tool here, but am I only the one that's computer keeps freezing when downloading the Mankatsu? This is really killing me, I am dieng to see this thing, and it's at 80% yet freezes my computer completely. It's upsetting in a way. If anybody downloaded it and had a success, I beg of you, find a way to atleast just post the Lupin and Alice skits somewhere, anywhere to watch.

This is some old news, but a news broadcaster visited people on the street in Japan and asked them to draw their favorite Anime characters. One man drew Lupin, but one of the anchors told him his drawing looked more like Golgo 13.

Ha, neat. My curious friend and I gave this game a spin some months ago, and we didn't find it very entertaining. It's particularly sad that when you do get the chance to have Jigen and Goemon tag around as a helpful partner, they vanish as soon as you move from floor to floor (or, if they suddenly move into a pit/grey space by themselves :/). Well, at least the sprites are cute. It's nice seeing a little review of the game, even if it wasn't anything addictive or super-memorable.

Goemon has his own 'float'. I am highly amused, having absolutely no idea what this event is about, or rather, what brought it about. In the case that it is something silly that was held just for fun, you have to admire the fact that it actually drew a bit of a crowd. :)

Let's see -- stolen helicopter, explosives used to breach building, thieves slide in on ropes, pursuit diverted by dummy bomb and tire-damage bars on road--and no casualties. Maybe it's a little scary that this happened for reals, but I would be lying if I didn't say a part of me was going "Whoa! Effin' rad!"

The fact that he made it at all in IGN's an accomplishment in itself, considering they could've inserted characters from more recent shows. What you should really be pissed about is that that list is such a sausage-fest.

A couple of random YouTube finds that really made me smile:

The Dirty Harry "Are you feeling lucky, punk?" scene ... only it's actually ダーティハリー (the Japanese dub), so guess who's voice comes out of the mouth of (a shockingly young-looking) Clint Eastwood? Absolutely unmistakeable--to my ears, it's almost the same voice Yamada used for Lupin's little introductory speech over (some of the) Green Jacket openings.

A few more Lupin finds, thanks to Google:

I don't know what anime this is (Dog of Flanders maybe?), but that guy that pops up behind the little boy does look familiar: http://lupin3.purari.jp/data/sara/

Also Zenigata-related, a recreation of his ID from a really devoted fan's blog (does anyone remember what special this was from?): http://arazatu.blog48.fc2.com/blog-entry-1496.html

Here's a photo-essay/rant thing I did about the "Ice, Robot" episode and its visual style. I know, I've talked about this episode a lot before, but I think with this piece, I've pretty much gotten it out of my system.

First there's a general intro to the red jacket series--
http://aalong64.blogspot.com/2009/12/lupin-third-1.html

Then the main article.

I like your general intro--it was very insightful and I liked the audio clips and pictures that you uploaded. I also like how you described each member of the Geneon voice cast's performance very succinctly, particularly Jake  Martin's Zenigata as "bringing a ton of energy".  : ) ::Bookmark.::

Just so you guys know, only one official Lupin DVD was released with English on it that was coded Region 0: Streamline Pictures' release of "The Mystery of Mamo" from back in 1998. All of them since have been region-locked.

What I'm getting at is, if you find Lupin DVDs that are region-free, they are bootlegs. We neither discuss nor encourage the purchase of bootlegs on this forum. Thanks!

EDIT: Small typo fix.

Otemae University placed a giant picture of Lupin on a wall next to Shukugawa station. It's an attempt to replicate the Moomin boom* and create some sort of buzz among the people to look at Lupin, think hard, feel inspired and do something great in the time of low birthrates and what not.

*I had to look this up because this made no sense to me at first. Apparently there is a Swedish cartoon animal (...? kinda looks like a cow I dunno) that became the mascot of a big supermarket chain in Japan. It was plastered everywhere and Moomin became a bit of a craze that got a little out of hand.

And I don't know if it's just me but it feels that they're suggesting that students partake in certain Lupin-esque activities that can be associated with increasing the birthrate.............. I mean why else would you throw that sentence in there? I know it's a serious issue that pops up in everything but it's just a bit odd...

Fun tidbit for you all though: Monkey Punch holds bi-monthly lectures and teaches aspiring cartoonists at Otemae.

Here's another custom LittleBigPlanet level themed after Lupin III. I'm guessing this one puts you in the role of a lackey or an apprentice towards the Lupin gang as you help them rob a bank. There are a few Lupin-themed collectable objects hidden as well.
The level is entirely in French, though.

As for the kid himself, he appears in World's Most Wanted, but it's never confirmed if he really is Lupin's son.

Yeah, but it's a comedy series...I guess "Lupin III Jr." just sounds funnier.

The character in question appears in Vol. 4.  But I should warn you that the quality's a lot less consistent in WMW than the first series.

So...What's the background on these Lupin III Jr. comics? When were the originally published? And how many chapters and/or Volumes did they run?
I remember reading that they ran between the first series and WMW(EDIT: according to LEP (http://www.lupinthethird.info/manga/lupin_manga_en.html) it began in 1978).  It was aimed at a younger audience than the main series, and Monkey Punch hated working on it.  He was glad to see it end.
Although you may wanna take that with a grain of salt, since I read it online in an interview years ago, which I can't find anywhere.

EDIT 2: Not the interview I was looking for, but here's A translated snippet of Monkey Punch being interviewed by Cutie Honey creator Go Nagai (http://altjapan.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/06/enemies_of_soci.html)

I totally just bought the 1'st Lupin III Jr. Issue. I would have bought the 2'nd also if they seller let me combine shipping. But alas. $14.00 shipping per Issue is just too much. I'm not in the financial position right now to spend $40.00. But $20.00 I could stretch.

Look forward to scans when it arrives.

Really, we can only speculate. For all we know, he was talking about the CGI opening to the PS2 video game, or maybe footage from one of the later video games. He says it went to Funimation's Texas-based voice team, but it's always possible that he just misremembered what he saw or the history of it. Others have speculated he's referring to a more recent TV special, but I don't know where he would have seen it--certainly not in a California recording studio. Maybe he caught a glimpse of some of the "Clips x Parts" music video release?

But, who knows? It could have been some mysteriously awesome Lupin CGI movie that was left unreleased! (I doubt it).

So during my procrastination I found a neat bit of Lupin news and learned a few things about Monkey Punch and his association with the city of Hamanaka. Also learned of his participation in trail maps to find flower fairies and the connection between Lupin and Häagen-Dazs production in said city >_>

Monkey Punch's hometown happens to be Hamanaka, a tiny city that holds the port of Kiritappu - which I'm sure some of you might remember as the place where the TVSP The Elusiveness of the Fog took place. Anyways, this article (http://www.news-kushiro.jp/news/20101114/201011142.html) mentions that last year, MP and the city of Hamanaka worked together on the "Monkey Punch & Lupin Regional Revitalization Project". What that entailed was having three groups design silhouettes that would be installed into street lights in the restaurant district. They've already reached the first step of completion and 2'x3' silhouettes of Fujiko, Lupin and Jigen in red, pink and blue have already been put up. It's been dubbed as "Lupin Street"

I may have read this wrong, or I might just be too stupid to figure out how this is supposed to work from the incredibly short explanation BUT from what I gather - Some sort of Lupin silhouette maker/thing/shape and coloured bulb would be installed into the street light (so it wouldn't be larger than say 6"x6"), thus when the light is turned on a silhouette would cast a 2'x3' shadow of a Lupin character onto the street.

....right? I mean it says street lamp and I don't see how it's possible to stick something that big into one unless they've got some sort of newfangled street lamp in Hamanaka. And it said nothing about sticking them in windows. I want pictures. =/

The Lupin III Millennium project is a new series of comic adventures of Lupin III which started in december 2001 and is authorized and supervised by the author Monkey Punch.

The problem is the lack of adaptation - they're trying to get the real-life actors to BE the cartoon characters. Agreed on the "wrong direction" observation, but I'm sure it would still be a fun romp to sit through once. Wasn't the fan-movie based on Zelda: Ocarina of Time pretty awful, in part anyway, because it was almost completely unfaithful to the game's storyline?

Sometimes I wish my Lupin news feed had some more interesting stuff in it rather than just Pachinko news. Never bothered to read one until now, but it turns out that those endless streams of Pachinko brouhaha were actually a good thing.

The newest Lupin III pachinko machine ("Lupin III Lupin Family Treasures") turned out to be a runaway hit and brought in well over its anticipated revenues. No specific numbers, but it was expected to earn 9.2 billion yen ($112 million USD) and it surpassed that.

Imagine the royalties MP receives on those machines... and I thought Oda was rich.

Linklinklink. PS. Link.

Oh, yeah, adaptation is more about reallocating the parts that work while preserving what makes them integral to a story and/or "feeling" of the original. Like that new Sherlock Holmes show on the Beeb. It's got a modern day setting but uses new devices to tell the same story, albeit sometimes hammily [Sherlock Holmes on Twitter! Iraq-War Watson!].  Makes me wonder about what kind of stuff they'd switch around in a Lupin movie. They'd probably stick Guy Ritchie directing and we'd get Brad Pitt in a fedora or something. Good on him (http://media.yucasee.jp/posts/index/6655)

According to this article, during all the seasonal university entrance buzz Monkey Punch recently noted that Lupin was admitted into Toudai. He was an undergrad in what I believe says medical engineering. Whether he actually graduated or dropped out is unknown.

Note: Toudai along with Keio are the equivalents of the top Ivy League colleges.

Someone beat me with a hat for this, but there is a Cagliostro Manga?

There's a full-color one that's not so much an "adaptation" as it is a bunch of screenshots from the movie made up to look like manga with irregular panel shapes and dialogue balloons. I own two of the four volumes. They have a nice "Cagliostro" emblem on the rear cover, though.

EDIT: Emblem now attached.

Nope. Now that i hear it, it's definitely not him singing (i used to think it was, though). The video description says it's sung by Haruo Minami. Wikipedia says he was a popular enka singer in post-war Japan before he died of prostate cancer about a decade ago.

I don't know if you guys know this or not, but I'm bringing it up because I thought it was a good find.

Ok so I was looking on youtube and I found a user who has posted several videos on different anime conventions and some videos include Lupin III cosplayers. What I found that was really cool, was that the user "MasterLupin03" videoed a 1993 Anime America convention of a Monkey Punch tribute where they gave him a present from all the Lupin fans, I didn't explain that very well. Watch the video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GigP6tlbVZw&feature=channel_video_title

His channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/MasterLupin03#p/u/37/GigP6tlbVZw he like 90 uploads and a lot of them are Lupin III related.

I almost died laughing watching this as well, they did a "parody" of the Clarisse and Lupin scene in the tower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2c0x2PD9PY&feature=channel_video_title

Hi again,

Today I went to sing Karaoke with my classmates at school. I am in an art class so my friends all love anime. At Karaoke I sang several Lupin songs and my friends were very amazed that I knew the lyrics to all of them. But anyways, there was a Lupin song called "Lupin the Fire" by SEAMO ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUbOXyLoOlM
In this earlier discussion someone mentioned it. I haven't heard it until today. It's  a rap, which kind of turns me off.

My friends recorded me singing Lupin III songs I requested:
Lupin the Fire by SEAMO
Lupin III Theme
Manhattan Joke by Kawai Nahoko (Lupin III Legend of the Gold of Babylon) ----------> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geifDoaLwQw

My friends also recorded me singing my favourite song of all time:
Fire Treasure (炎のたからもの )
its on youtube --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmWgBpRnfkk

My friends also recorded me singing Love theme:
ルパン三世 愛のテーマ (Lupin III Love theme)
its on youtube as well --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GregMqlHTcs

I'm not very good of a singer,  so don't bash my terrible singing too badly please. When I sang Fire Treasure, I can't explain to you how happy I was. I was shaking after I sang it because I loved singing it so much. The song just somehow captures me away into another world for 3 minutes. Some people  may listen to this song and think it's the weirdest song ever, but to me, its a real jem.

Yeah I caught those commercials last year myself. I like all of them, and cool enough, I think those commercials are animated by TMS, the same people who did Nostradamus and Little Nemo and Animaniacs. I'm at least guessing it's them, cause back in the 90s there were a couple commercials mixing live-aciton with animation, and they all looked extremely similar in their quality.

I'm sure at least a 1/3 of you guys on this forum are familiar with the unusual entry in the history of Lupin the 3rd that is "Cliffhanger," a 1982 laser-disk video game, designed to cash in on the supposed popularity of "The Castle of Cagliostro" and the short lived popularity of Laser-disk games; the few popular of which were "Dragon's Lair" and "Space Ace," created by Don Bluth.

In the case of Cliffhanger, there's not really much material on it, or at least there didn't used to be. But now the few fans who were hooked on it back in the 80s are bringing the game back in the form of downloadable digital versions, and they are becoming more and more educated about the game's actual history, especially the fact that the game is really a big chopped up version of two different Japanese animated, Lupin movies.

And so here, I have a link to an actual full-length review of the "Cliffhanger" video game by RETROGAMER3, where he has done his research, and has looked to the origins of the game. He's even watched the full Cagliostro movie, and he very much loves it. Those of you watching will also learn a few bizarre trivia facts about the game that you would have never guessed: http://retrogamer3.com/My_Video_pages_2011/Cliff%20Hanger%20Arcade%20video.html

Okay, WOW, has anybody seen this?!

This is like the most funny, yet awesome rendition of the Lupin theme I have heard yet. It is pretty much the DDR remix, played over the 1979 title sequence, but with a really energetic pair of guys singing, or maybe it's just one guy. But while some of the time, this guys sings pretty well, most of the time he sounds like Patrick Starfish attempting to sing a kareoke of the Lupin the 3rd lyrical theme.

But like I said, it may be funny, but when this guy sings it well, he sings it well, and it's just as much awesome as it is funny.
(There is a lead in introduction to the characters before the song starts):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFdl1KIt6yg

sorry for double post but I came across all these random pictures I found on Google Images
I don't understand the comics yet, so if anyone who knows Japanese better than I do could you please translate it?

The first comic:
RIGHT TO LEFT
Zenigata (blushing?): "He stole something precious and priceless." (im not too sure, I'm guessing)
Clarisse: "...!"
Zenigata: "Your heart."
Middle right box:
Zenigata: " wait Lupin!!"
Lupin: "fufufu (laughing) pops!"
Box below : "ahahaha"
Bottom left box: I can't read the kanji but Clarisse seems to be crying haha.

The second picture... I have no clue lol.
The first 2 boxes at the top say:
Clarisse: "Who?"
Lupin: "A Theif."
The bottom boxes I don't know the Kanji...

I actually have the first one translated (by someone else, don't if it's accurate)
here's how it goes:

321
    4
6  5
1. Zenigata: "That guy made of with something outrageous"
2. Clarisse: "...!"
3. Zenigata (blushing): "My Heart."
4. Zenigata: " Wait Lupin!!"
4. Lupin: "fufufu (laughing) Catch Meee~!"
5. "ahahaha"
6. Bottom left box: "What bad luck in feelings." (with Clarissa Crying)

Not an official Twitter account, but check out Lupin bot (http://twitter.com/#!/lupin3_bot) for fun.
There's an abundance of these twitterbots based on anime characters, most of them being Japanese. Also, i've found supplementary twitterbots for the rest of the cast (except Fujiko Mine, for some odd reason).

Jigen Twitterbot (http://twitter.com/jigen_bot)
Goemon Twitterbot (http://twitter.com/goe_bot)
Zenigata Twitterbot (http://twitter.com/zenigata_bot)

To those who are gonna follow one, here's an important piece of advice: Never start a mutual conversation with a twitterbot!
Replying won't do any harm but Twitterbots may not reply to other users if you keep doing it. And that's bad.

EDIT: a little kanji misreading on the twitterbot's site's About section on my part. Fixed now!

That long-lost video of the cast with a black-haired and beardless Miyazaki has been Nico'ed (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm3634403).  8) And apparently, I missed this SMAP riff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oyoadlt-qZk&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL4CEB24F2521BD6D1) on Lupin.

Love the Lupin the 3rd SNL-isque parody. I never knew they did such a thing. But knowing Japan, Lupin was just popular enough to do it. I think the performance on Lupin could have been more exaggerated though, considering this is a parody and Lupin is much crazier than that when he's normal.

This is my new Lupin website. Rather than the run of the mill fansite, I decided to gear mine towards being a news & media blog for Lupin fans. Sort of an information hob for Lupin fans, including links other Lupin sites and podcasts (linking & crediting to the original source).

I thought the animation was fairly good, the single middle second shots, that's a lot of pictures to draw, I gotta give the person credit for that.

Great interview. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Fred really is a wealth of information from that era. I had an informal interview with him back in 2007 by email and he gave me a lot of insight into the history behind "Mystery of Mamo" or "Mamoux" or "Mamaux" or whatever. Maybe one of these days I'll edit it together and post it all for proper viewing.

I knew there was something different about that opening when we watched the 2nd episode via KeyholeTV! Especially the part where the TVs shut off. It's like watching the differences of the anime, Madoka Magica, when comparing them to their TV/BluRay counterparts.

Makes you wonder if they're going to do this for every episode: Slightly changing the OP sequence while the ED sequence will have major differences from the last one like what happened in episode 2 this week.

Actually, I think it has more to do with what Gozar and Reed are saying in the other section about the show, in that the staff animating the series is not including promos for the upcoming episode because they are working on each new episode up till the last hour of the deadline. Which means that they are rushing certain aspects because they started the series later than they anticipated. Meaning that the OP of the first episode was likely unfinished, as you can tell by some of the poor After Effects tricks they are using. The OP of the second episode was much more polished, likely suggesting that it may change a few more times until it's the way they want it, and then it will remain the same the rest of the way.

More like a mixed bag of clips, but this Van Halen-themed AMV also features some Cagliostro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaAazsHXUQ8&feature=plcp&context=C4fa6af1VDvjVQa1PpcFMr-ChB2vwY-4tGrZhAWlP0d5PRB62TPWQ%3D) goodness. Slightly NSFW.

Edit: Don't like mentioning boots, but since MGM/TCM doesn't want anyone who'd be interested to pay for it, you can get the entire Lionel Barrymore Arsene Lupin here (http://www.youtube.com/user/liliannaskye/videos). MGM plans to stream stuff from its library on Youtube and Google, so maybe you can pester 'em for an official one.

Also, Luis noted a new Lupin Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lupin-the-Third/362630080446168).

Love the Zenigata/Gadget video. Someone had said when they first saw a trailer for "Twilight Gemini" they thought it was a rip-off of Inspector Gadget or something like that, so they lost interest in Lupin for a while.

Starsky and Hutch is from the late 70s right, so the Lupin music fits perfectly. Anything like that from the 70s or late 60s is great mash-up material for Lupin music.  ;D 8)

The games are pretty short, though i do admit they were fun to play while they lasted.

Here are a few hints for when you play either one:
For the Zenigata whack-a-mole, you're supposed to get 15 points total to win. You lose points for whacking the commissioner (the guy with the mustache).
The Jigen shooting game requires pretty quick reflexes, as you're supposed to shoot the Jigen double (and nobody else) before he shoots you.

The usage example given in definition #3 made me chuckle. And looking at the date of definition #5, the negativity isn't too surprising, as that was a typical reaction to the show at the time, by [adult swim] viewers.

I've been listening to that Eurobeat version for a long time. It's probably the coolest and most energetic rendition of the theme outside of the '94 or '96 official version of the theme. It also gives us an opportunity to listen to an English translation of the theme from the 2nd season of the Red Jacket series. ;D

I don't know how they couldn't be both Bebop and Lupin fans. ;D It's kind of all tied in together; or at least it feels like it should be.

Those guys were old school anime fans back in the original anime boom of the late 80s and early 90s, so they probably came across the old Streamline Lupin VHS tapes.

I never sensed any sort of Lupin influence in "The Matrix," nothing really obvious (unlike the many references I've seen to Cagliostro in some Steven Spielberg related films); but I wouldn't doubt they've seen at least one of the films.

@aicnanime and @otaku_usa linked this article from Daryl Surat on which Lupin to watch next (http://www.otakuusamagazine.com/Anime/News1/So_Which_Lupin_the_Third_Anime_Should_You_Watch_Ne_4854.aspx).

Edit: @abcbtom and @amaincharacter linked this ranking list (http://mecha-guignol.com/2012/12/30/2012-a-year-where-anime-didnt-suck/3/) of '012 anime which didn't suck, and Fujiko is at the top.

Edit 2: @aicnanime linked a sweet red jacket cosplayer pic (http://twitpic.com/bqmeix) from Comiket.

Edit 3: Italian intro to Walther (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Lupin%3A+Walther+p38+trailer). Also, some JP cosplay action (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZWvtZmljh8).

Edit 4: This isn't terribly important, but David Hayter mentioned Lupin in his Twitter profile.

Edit 5: Grumpy Jii-san reviewed the Geneon Lupin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmzFE4fxy5c). Actually, he's got five Lupin items (http://www.youtube.com/user/MrKyoujun2010/videos?query=lupin) so far.

Edit 6: Lupin red jacket intro as re-imagined by the Kikkoman guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H55NH2zCN4o).

Edit 7: Lot of Fujiko AMVs tonight. Probably should add that a lot of those clips are NSFW. Fujiko meets Green Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro8S3HysDCU). Fujiko the Eurobeat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkggWHGUmuo). Fujiko is That Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QP-v8tkuQM). Hey, Fujiko, Are You Gonna Be My Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LePPIwtJgW8)? So I guess the key to Fujiko's Heart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1yoN3qZZ8w) is through her bank account?  ;) Fujiko is a real Lady Gaga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iCldPEEj1A)? This one's a quickie. Keep on dancin' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TePDkGenxI4), even in truncated form, I guess. Fly me to Fujiko's moons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4rz46Ibn2o).  :P Fujiko says hey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU3fPvcf1gY) to Leonardo. Nobody does it like Fujiko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOfh7Mujr7w). Fujiko can be a real bitch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5Eqsl-3yH4) and a mean girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkgZ1J4dwFU) sometimes. You need a Wake Up Call (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPv_6j8n95A), Fujiko. My Sharona can't compete with Fujiko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZla4INNBy4). Never heard this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaTJG7Ox2eU). Fujiko gets a little Jesus by way of Gackt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsLkNc0wsOQ) in her life. Oh, and just to go back for a sec, Lupin by way of Bon Jovi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2PNgcHCb3I). Plus, some omake in the form of an AMV featuring the Ishikawa Goemon from Bobobo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTkLkURig40).

Edit 8: Return of the beardless Miyazaki (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyf-0pE7Br8).

^lol! The "Fujiko is That Girl." link is my very first AMV video. *sigh* Good times, good times... Too bad it was very amatuerish, though. xD It was on my original account as the very first video I ever made on there, but got deleted a year afterwards in 2008. So I re-uploaded it on a different account (hence the name, 'Fujikogirl23' under the video description)

But what I really came here for was to show you guys this AWESOME Lupin III 2nd TV series theme....

SEGA Genesis style.  8)

I liked that trivia link about Lupin!

I remember in the manga reading the story where Lupin and Zenigata were at university together. I can't imagine that Zenigata is really "3 years older than Lupin", I always thought that university plot was a one-off story arc.

For some reason I like the idea that Lupin has (at least part of) a college degree, though!

You can pretty much say this about any material in Lupin. There is very little consistency between not only the different projects, but even chapter to chapter in Monkey Punch's own Manga.

Following some sources, Monkey Punch might have said Lupin III attended Todai (the japanese equivalent of Boston).

And Gozar: You're totally right ! Even the introduction of Jigen and his relationship with Lupin is told numerous times, each time different.

That's true. Zenigata could at least be a decade older than Lupin, but I personally think he's old enough to be Lupin's father.

Apparently, there's some sort of sweepstakes (http://lupin-3rd.net/news/index.html#roots20130919) with Lupin and Roots Coffee which involves hunting down gold coins which Lupin's stolen.

Edit: Spotted on the ANN forums. Aside from Kanye, I'm not sure where these most of these celebs said anything about Lupin (http://s60.photobucket.com/user/lil_slugger11/media/12690356126061.jpg.html).

Edit 2: ANN tackles Lupin's lack of break-out success here (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2013-11-15).

Edit 8: Missed this one earlier from @aicnanime, but there's a link for Valentine-themed cards from FUNimation, including one with Fujiko (http://www.funimation.com/blog/?p=3610).

Edit 9: Cagliostro got a mention (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/from-best-to-worst-ranking-the-films-of-hayao-miyazaki-20140220), in terms of ranking Miyazaki films, but because they got no taste, it's dead last after Howl.  >:(

For those that have played MGS3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp9scOQscY4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp9scOQscY4)

A pretty cool blog that has a bunch of Lupin III related pictures: http://blog.livedoor.jp/tad_hoshiya/archives/cat_434023.html (http://blog.livedoor.jp/tad_hoshiya/archives/cat_434023.html)

A made it quite a long time ago, but if anybody uses Spotify I created a playlist with all of the Lupin III music currently available on the service: https://play.spotify.com/user/solherald/playlist/6ZVDo93dOi1eS3pXhTZa0n (https://play.spotify.com/user/solherald/playlist/6ZVDo93dOi1eS3pXhTZa0n)

Via @WTK, TMS has decided to upload a montage of official Lupin music collections (https://twitter.com/WTK/status/877669592990142464) to their channel. Also, for those interested, I just noticed that there's a French dub (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf20dcKK8zU) of the first red jacket episode. And finally, just Monkey Punch-related, but here's a new Mankatsu clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZmjB0cCC1w).

Edit: That second link was misleading. It's only Lupin with French subs.  :'( But if you're too broke to check the show out on Crunchyroll, it's free. *shrugs*

Edit 2: Via the Vintage Anime Fans FB page, here's the first official English (http://www.lupin-3rd.net/en/) Lupin page from TMS. I'm hoping Goemon getting a mention means it got picked up. I'm also wondering if the fact that they're high on Koike means he'll get a third special greenlit. It would make sense, after all.  ::)

This is just speculation but from a Tweet from Discotek: https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/873974769338785795
it sounds like they have more Lupin, since they haven't release Part 4 yet, they probably wouldn't release Italian Game, so I would like to think that it is Goemon.

Unlike the other episode on TMS's Youtube channel, this Lupin is dubbed in French (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irWexUcWRTk).

Edit: TMS is uploading Lupin wallpaper (http://www.lupin-3rd.net/special/) for the anniversary.

Edit 2: Not an entirely pleasant read, but you can learn more about Fujiko screenwriter Mari Okada here (http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/feature/2017-09-06/how-mari-okada-went-from-shut-in-to-anime-director/.120417).

A very interesting read, this Mari Okada retrospective! Didn't know she was involved
in the Fujiko series script. I didn't have such a tough childhood but I can fully understand some of her behaviour.
Good thing people like her, talented but troubled, can still make a living and find a way to express themselves.

Nothin' new, but Lasseter loves Lupin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_ytxdF3pfw).

Edit: Also, interview with a Ghibli animator who also briefly talks about his work on Lupin (http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/feature/2017-09-08/interview-studio-ghibli-key-animator-hiroshi-shimizu/.121119).

Edit 2: Old links I probably missed and/or someone noticed before me. But Cliff Hanger play-through clips here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGhgO_dv9fU) and here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tQqf8nciH0).

The Japanese dub actor for Professor Layton is a Lupin fan, and got Monkey Punch to do promotional art (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2017-11-29/lupin-monkey-punch-draws-art-for-the-detective-is-in-the-bar-3-film/.124632) for his new movie.
