Really hoping the other 9 will follow suit as well, excited for remastered video, true titles, and non botched ending credits.

Fantastic! This is a very underrated special, IMO; it's about time it got the Discotek treatment.

I really hope this means further rescues of Funimation-licensed Lupin titles, especially Dead or Alive.

I'm glad they are going through the specials chronologically. I haven't bought any of the funimation one's hoping they would re-release them.

I think it means that they are going to release all of the Funimation licensed Lupin titles. So this must mean that all of the other Lupin title they acquired must be doing well then.

I think Walther should go next, because that's the best of that line-up. But I do like Dead or Alive, too..

This is one of my favorite specials - hopefully the video quality is improved a lot in the remaster and we get a commentary track.

I'd really want to see a copy of Nostradamus in Anamorphic widescreen. The Funimation version is terrible.

I'm not super excited because I just finished getting all the Funimation discs on eBay and paid more for them than they're really worth. I should have listened to my gut feeling that Discotek might go for them. I also didn't enjoy Voyage to Danger all that much, but I might buy it again if the release is tempting enough and the price is right.

If this means that all the Lupin announcements for the foreseeable future will be re-releases of the Funimation ones, I'm going to be a little disappointed. I haven't seen any of the newer specials, and even though everyone says they suck, I've been hoping that Discotek would get them instead.

I know that feeling. I remember buying up all the Tenchi Muyo OVA discs (OVA 1 & 2) for way more money than they were worth shortly before Funimation license rescued them. And the original Bubblegum Crisis DVD boxset just before the blue remastered set (counting the recent Blu-Ray release, I've bought it three times).

C'est lavie.

Thank goodness...There's someone else on the forums who actually likes it! Now that is an underrated movie...

Haven't seen this, though. And I should, for what I'm reading. Anyway, I'm happy Discotek is releasing more Lupin.

Me, three.

Unfortunately with them going in order we'll have awhile until Walther. I can't wait as FUNi's Walther is one of the worst video transfers.

Mid-2016 release date set and cover revealed: https://www.facebook.com/147168055312297/photos/a.196378827057886.55668.147168055312297/1241497179212707/?type=3&theater

Cover seems to be the same as the Japanese one, which I don't mind at all.

I've been debating whether or not to get the First Haul set or wait for Discotek to get to them. On one hand, I'd like to save shelf space on the specials (I assure you, all those movies and video games do take up a lot), but on the other hand, it might be better to wait.

I definitely recommend waiting. I got the Funimation sets last year right before Discotek announced the Voyage to Danger re-release and wanted to kick myself for a long time. One of the specials was cut and had no Japanese audio track, and the visual side leaves a lot to be desired. It's guaranteed that Discotek's version will be much better, and here's hoping that they'll re-release all the other ones Funimation dubbed as well.

If you don't own them already, the Discotek editions of these films will probably have better A/V quality.

Barring some unpredictable scenario, there will be significantly better A/V quality on any classic TV Specials we issue, especially anything previously released in the US. The new masters are much better than what Funimation got to work with back in 2002~2007/8(?).

Apparently, it's actually a DVD/BD combo (https://www.facebook.com/147168055312297/photos/a.196378827057886.55668.147168055312297/1290631780965913/?type=3&theater). I hope we get that with Walther, too.  8) Thanks to Vintage Anime Fans for the link.

^No complaints about it being dvd and bd, but as I always buy dvd, do these combo packs come in a case the same size as a dvd or bd case? Might seem silly but it would bother me if it was smaller when lined up with my other Lupin DVDs.  :P
Title: Re: Discotek acquires Voyage to Danger/Orders to Assassinate Lupin

Form my experience with BD/DVD releases, most, if not all of them arrive in cases the same size as BDs on their own. Dunno if that'll be the case (no pun intended) here, but I would imagine so.

Of course, normal BD cases are a bit smaller and thinner than DVD cases by default. I know what it's like to be a bit bewildered by the differences when putting the cases on the shelf, especially when putting them in order and jumping between BD and DVD. It might be odd, but if you're like me with my collection, you're gonna have to learn to deal with it...as I'm gonna.

It'll be in Blu-ray-style packaging, as per the posted cover art. Sorry to the DVD-format-only-shelf-unity folks!

That's okay, Reed. Sadly, SolHerald may not be so happy, but I guess it's something we'll all learn to get used to. :P

On my end? Eh, wasn't really that concerned. If anything, I'm glad to know if I ever decide I wanna get rid of the DVD copies in the DVD/Blu/Ray combos, I already know who to give the DVD copies to. So that's a plus.

I'm overjoyed to see this getting a DVD/BD combo pack - it should look amazing in HD, and the special is already one of the better-looking ones anyway.

I absolutely LOVE that it's going to be a combo pack as I will buy all formats of Lupin to support and add to my collection, when I buy both formats I also get a 2, or 3, disc BD case so that I can have them all in one. Couple quick questions, will there be a slipcover? And any idea what release window we should expect?
Title: Re: Discotek acquires Voyage to Danger/Orders to Assassinate Lupin
Post by: Reed on April 15, 2016, 02:54:50 am
I don't remember if a release date has been settled upon, but it will include a cardboard slipcover that matches the BD cover sleeve. I don't remember there being an inside art spread for it this time, though.

Anyway, if y'all love the BD combo pack thing for Voyage, definitely show your support by purchasing it! If you all pick up Voyage, I'm confident more Lupin combo packs will make it out there, even if not every Lupin release gets one.

I really enjoy Lupin the Third, and love that Discotek continues to offer such high quality releases for this property.  I check this forum and Amazon.com on a bi-monthly basis to make sure I don't miss a single release.  I usually pre-order mine, so that Discotek gets my support right away.  The store I work at gets the Blu-ray releases, so I usually buy those there, and order the DVD only releases.  I will definitely get these two new announced Lupin releases and show my continued support for more.  Reed, the extras you provide on them are awesome, and I really enjoy the time and effort you put into helping Discotek have intelligent and interesting extras to check out.

I recently got this in the mail as well. I really liked this special. Masaaki Ōsumi's Green Jacket episodes are very interesting and are among my favorites, so it was cool to see his return to the series.

I also really liked the character designs in this special (especially Jigen). They were very unique and it would have been cool to see those designs in another special. It's a shame that they were never used again.

Overall, this was a really solid special and another great release from Discotek. Fingers crossed for a Burn, Zantetsuken BD/DVD combo. I'm really looking forward to seeing a more Goemon centric special.

Boy, really no reason to keep the old disc is there - unless you're really in love with the old Dragonball trailers.

I wish they'd hurry up and announce/release the Red Jacket series. I'd like to dump all those old Geneon discs and really free up some shelf space. Even if Discotek breaks the series into a couple of parts, it's gotta be way more efficient that the 14 discs we currently have.

If you're gonna dump the Geneon discs, try doing it via the Amazon Trade-In thing.
