Title: Lupin the Cosplay!
Post by: mizducky on November 03, 2008, 04:30:37 pm
Geist: Stickied! Rock on!

I didn't spot any ongoing topic dedicated to Lupin-themed cosplay, so I decided to start one.

I'll be brave and go first: here's my look for Halloween the other night:

Before anyone else says it: yeah yeah yeah, it's Fat Lupin, like Fat Elvis. I'm workin' it anyway.  :P

And I keep telling you, you're being too hard on yourself. From what you were telling me, you clearly went great lengths for the sake of detail... hell, those sideburns look amazing, for one. I would have liked to have seen the crystal in the shot, too, but all well. I can't wait until you have more shots to share.

Heck, no cosplay can be perfect...

My Ishikawa Bed-Head proves this statement. XD

So if people give you trouble for your cosplay just because you and Lupin don't share the same body-type... boot to the face! I admire your bravery, and I'm sure I'm not alone.  :)

So you wanna be Yasuo? :P

P.S. If I didn't say it before, let me say it now: that Jigen cosplay of yours is awesome.

Well, even though I did that cosplay years before GVR, I did have longer hair that I was gellin' back a la Yasuo, so, why not?! :D
^ this is also why I have Ranma from Cinderella Boy as my avatar, same sideburns, more hair, lol.

Thanks, I love my Jigen cosplay, it's been my favorite to date! I like my Lupin one, but there's still alotta stuff I would like to do to it, but now adays my hair is waaay too long to pull that off... maybe I'll grow out the beard again and try to pull off Lupin in Prison...... lol.

Love the new avvie btw.

My pathetic attempt at cosplaying Yasuo... I had fun with my webcam, my wig and my fake cigarette LOL

Well, looks like we already have a Green for the GVR, guess that means I' can stick to my Jigen. Lol.! Seriously, looks great to me! ;D I really like the hair.

I still stick to the idea that cosplay is mostly about the attitude rather than the appearance. And you, mademoiselle (?) madame (?), have Yasuo's attitude down pat. ^^ And you have the appearance, so that makes your cosplay like stars *__* Ahhhh..^^
Title: Re: Lupin-themed cosplay
Post by: Sad cactus on January 08, 2009, 05:28:02 pm
banished prince: Not to worry! ^^ There's the wonderful world of cross-playing! You can cosplay guys if you want to, and it's done all the time! ^^ Most of the Ls from DeathNote are usually girls, few guys would be caught dead cosplaying the Sanzo party from Saiyuki, but that's okay because there's a whole bunch of girls who cosplay the Sanzo party...what else..? I saw a girl Jigen and Lupin over the summer, and there's the infamous Sailor Bubba (guy Sailor Moon) and Man Faye. (guy Faye Valentine) So indulge in full-body cosplays to your heart's content, because being of the opposite gender of your character isn't a handicap. ^__^ Besides, if you don't do it, who else would? ^_^

True... Nobody will. Yasuo is just a minor character. No luck for him, he is my obsession.
I ordered something close to his jacket/blazer. And I'll try a second attempt soon.

Indeed! I mean, if there's hardly any cosplay love for Lupin nowadays---the largest convention on  the east coast boasted a *whopping* six Lupin cosplayers last summer--maybe there were seven. That's nothing compared to hundreds of the more popular characters. ::Cough.:: Naruto. ::Cough.:: So if there's no love for Lupin at conventions, like you said, there won't be any for Yasuo. From what I've read of your story, he is the most sophisticated and effective Lupin impersonator as of yet. : ) Will be looking forward to your second attempt! ^^

OO Girl-ish? Not at all, that's unbelievably manly! Really, I would never be able to tell! OO

You're very thorough in your cosplay, that's really admirable! ^_^

That was at Otakon 2008. Compared to the number of Naruto and Sasuke cosplayers, it's a pretty small number...X__X;;; There were two Jigens that I saw, and no Goemon or Fujiko. : (

My second attempt at Yasuo (girl-ish version  ;D)
The color of the jacket is not accurate at all, but that's all I could find. :'( I'll try to dye it.
My wig goes all messy after several minutes, I guess the hair spray is not very good.

Lupin, I'm waiting for you. Anytime, anywhere. But be fast or your girl will be mine, mwahaha!

OMG, we so need a topic for a roleplay. We describe our actions and post the related picture of our cosplay. The only problem is when there is a confrontation, but photoshop will help us. What do you think about?

Did somebody say roleplay? ;) Having a relevant picture might be kind of tough, though... I, for one, don't get in costume very often. I'm still for an all-text roleplay... but that's just me. Not to say that I would mind seeing images of other cosplays. :)

By the way, your Yasuo is very convincing!

Edit: Blargh, a double-negative.

well...i guess i'll post my sad lupin cosplay pics...((sad because they're not full body, but i guess you get the idea...?))
at anime south. unfortunately my hair isnt straight black because i had to do a last minute temp-black hair dye treatment ((i had to dress as Yuta from Zombie Loan the next day, so i couldnt actually dye it black, so it came out brown...bleh))
next up is my Green Vs. Red Lupin costume: work in progress, but the photo is pretty neat looking ^_^
(http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y72/LadyNepenthe/lupingvr.jpg)
see what i mean about dying a tie? it came out pretty well i think ^_^

and soon (once i get my jigen costume done) i'm going to be doing a lupin/jigen photo shoot, thanks to my friend Angie ^_^
i'll post those pics too once its all said and done.

I really love the gvr costume, could be because while I love the blue shirt on lupin, black makes him look soo badass in my opinion. Every time I see Lupin with a black undershirt I know he's really gonna be ready for some action. ^^

Oh i know!! I kinda wish they'd switch his whole outfit to black (like the GvR figurine), like for a second series...make it darker and a bit more serious. or at least for the next special...

My BF had the idea of if we ever get to a con of me doing a gender bended/crossplaing Jigen... ^___^;

I mean, just because I have the fedora, suit, and pants (I need a new shirt and I'd have to borrow one of dad's ties or buy one, lol) doesn't mean I can be Jigen.  XD  Though he IS my favorite character along with Zenigata and Lupin!

If I can get some stuff together I'll post pics sometime for the randomness of gender bended Jigen.   :D

Yasuo's belt. right: official design / left: my version

I've finally found a white blazer that I can dye. I've already dyed the jeans and the T-shirt. It didn't worked with the scarf (it is not working with polyester material and be very carefull with wool ).
I can't find the right shoes for the moment.

bunnialchemistmeep > I received the tie that I ordered via the link last week and it's a very good quality for a low price. I would have been the same cost to dye one...

Ah, thanks for all the kind words and favorites. I've always beens surprised at how many people have faved that on on my DA. To answer the questions, I was able to  keep the real cig, but it wasn't lit while inside ever (which is fine since I don't really smoke unless it's for a picture )

To dye a blazer/jacket, here are some tips:
_material: coton only -> beware at the thread, if it's polyester it won't work
_tincture: I used the one from Dylon, they sell bright colors, probably also in Italy
_washing machine at 40 degree
And...good luck!
I'm eager to see your cosplay finished!
...Green Lupin is waiting you with his gun ready to shoot.  8)

so i don't find red jacket and white jacket uff... i must buy it for the 19/04... because there is Torino Comics... uff :'( :'(

I scoured second-hand clothing stores to find my red jacket. It's actually a man-tailored woman's jacket. In the real world, men's jackets in bright primary colors are relatively scarce. ;D

(The jacket was a real find in more ways than one. It's a damn nice jacket. Pure wool, fully lined, really well tailored. And ... damn easy to get overheated in. If I'm going to cosplay in that jacket at San Diego Comic-con, I'm going to have to find a friendly hotel room I can borrow long enough to costume up in, because I am NOT wearing that rig outdoors in the SoCal July heat.  :D )

I know, right?! >< One time I walked into a store and looked at the jackets: black, black, black, black black, black, black, black, BROWN!!! ---black black, black, gray, black, etc. I agree with you, large women's jackets are the way to go. I don't know if this is technically cosplay or not, but my boyfriend was wanting me to dress up as a gender bended Jigen for a party and he'd dress as Lupin.

Seeing as I don't have a suit at the moment, these pictures were just taken impromptu with two of my fedoras, a blue short sleeve dress shirt (which I hate but it's the only blue one I have), and a cigarrette stolen from the parents since I don't smoke.  (Remember kids, smoking is bad!)  XD  The things I do for my boyfriend cosplay Lupin III.

(click to show/hide)

My BF took these pictures so they're not the best... XD

Also...is it bad when your boyfriend's new pet names for you are "Jigen" and "Jiggy?"  XD

Oh well...I guess he'd be my "Luppy" then wouldn't he?   ;D

(Sorry the pictures are so big.   :-\  We couldn't get them any smaller without distorting them horrendously.)

Interestingly, in Twilight Gemini Lupin conceded to the desert heat of Morocco and donned a blue short-sleeved shirt with no tie, and a white suit ... but Jigen was still in his usual rig.  ;)

...I noticed that the other day when I watched Twilight Gemini.

I also now call Twilight Gemini the White Jacket special...because he wears that white jacket throughout almost the ENTIRE movie. XD

That sucks.  >< Is there an area of France where the trains are concentrated, or are they scattered around?

here is a natural barrier between Nice and Torino: the alps. Because of it, the trains goes first to Genova then there is one doing Genova-Torino. But if I do that it will take me a whole day only to reach Torino

::Hits head.:: Right, the Alps. That's embarassing. oO If there's something that I suck at worse than math it's geography. ^^;;; A whole day? oO; Oof, that would stretch your gas. oO Sorry you're stuck. ;_;

This is me at Ohayocon '05. I can't wear that costume anymore because I've lost too much weight. I was a bit over 200 when this was taken, and now I'm 150.

I'd have to get a new costume. Curse you boxing, but I love you anyway. XD

I remember that Ohayocon though. Scott McNeil was shocked at how I was able to fit my long curly hair under that wig. Took many pins and a homemade skullcap.

For Fanime next week I've been working on my Clarisse cosplay. Today I'm painting the ring I sculpted from fimo clay to wear. I've been taking pictures of the making-of process which I'll be putting up here once it's finished.

angelidollinda > I am very interested to see your ring. I tried to sculpt Yasuo's ring but the result has not been very great (probably because I was doing something else at the same time ::))

I wanted to sculpt the ram crest on the surface of mine, but I couldn't make it small enough so I decided to paint the ram on there instead. Right now I'm waiting for the glue to set and dry (I baked the emblem and the band separately).

Here's a photograph I have so far from last weekend's visit to a convention; I wasn't sure if my friend would be comfortable having a photograph of her on a forum she doesn't frequent, so I played it safe (and took a goofy route). I didn't want to cut her out of the picture, because it wouldn't look right.

If I attend another event this year, I am thinking of going as Little Mac, aside from Goemon (again). I wasn't keen on having a photograph taken here (apart from the fact that I'm far from photogenic :/) since I didn't have the time to switch back to my proper thonged sandals. Those things are far more accurate, but walking with them always results in straining tendons in my legs.

No one faults you for switching footwear. I swear, sandals, flip-flops and high-heels are disasters waiting to happen. oO One time I attempted to walk up a very gentle incline with flip-flops and kept on falling down, twisting my ankle, and feeling general PAIN. X_X

Awesome cosplay. You cut a very dignified figure, and it's obvious that you put a lot of effort into your cosplay. Hooray for Goemon love. Thanks for sharing! ^^

Argh, that really sounds awful. :/ Even in these more comfortable sandals, my feet ached badly and felt raw at the end of three days - so I can't imagine how it would be in those flat, thonged things. Flip-flops usually are not great for moving about anywhere other than the house, heh.

Swell costume, IG! That's just some jazz all over the place, maam. Did you make it yourself, and if so, how difficult was it? I've got a close seamstress friend who I tried conning into that one time for a vaguely related reason but they couldn't be bothered.

Oh, quick question. Was the sword a problem at all, getting it into the convention? I hear all kinds of horror stories about overzealous security not even letting capguns in, so I 'unno.

I can't take any credit whatsoever; I'm just a clotheshanger. My best friend, who is incidentally standing next to me in this photograph, made the keikogi for me, and I bought the hakama for around $50; they weren't sold in indigo, so I settled for a brown one. I think my friend was following instructions for the keikogi she found either on Cosplay.com, or just by Googling. Another Goemon cosplayer I know of said she made the top by modifying some sort of men's shower robe from Sears... :P There's always that possibility - work off of something pre-existing. Myself, I can't sew to save my life. Thanks, though. :)

You know, I guess it really varies from convention to convention - but at mine up North, I didn't have any issues. I just have to keep Zantetsuken sheathed unless one of those rare occasions come along where a photograph is taken, or if I'm in any wide-open space. I think all conventions have a weapons-check area where your item is tagged if it is approved by staff, and your information is taken down. I still have my tag from two years ago, so I was able to cheat and bypass waiting in a long line this year. :P In any case, it never hurts to e-mail staff and ask them if what you mean to take with you is alright.

Hey all, I'm new to the forums! After lurking a bit, I'm going to finally post something! I love seeing the Lupin cosplays, guys. It's really cool to see fellow fans showing their love for the show and characters. :)

I've cosplayed as Jigen (White tie and Black tie versions), Goemon (White Hakama version so far), and Fujiko.

Closeup shot of my Jigen costume... I'm actually smokin' a Pall Mall in this pic, hence I couldn't bend it up much, hehe. It wouldn't re-light very easily if I did that. But I often try to smoke down to about half the cig, put it out and bend it a bit, and then use that as a prop to hold in my mouth. Sometimes it gets me dirty looks from the con staff (understandably) since it looks at first glance like I'm smoking indoors. Luckily this bar from Katsucon allowed smoking. (Don't worry, I don't actually smoke normally; I'm a very occasional smoker and keep it to cons for Jigen and social occasions for the most part.)

My Lupin and I with our puppets (thank you, ebay!)
I made the Jacket, tie, beard and fedora band from scratch. I wanted to make the jacket from scratch in order to get the cartoony, ultra-sharp look of Jigen's clothing. The fedora was originally just a narrow brim piece, and I ended up building the rest of the brim (to get it to 2.75") with foam, fixing it to the original brim, and then covering the whole thing with fabric. I was trying to go again for the cartoony look of Jigen's hat.

An older shot of my Goemon costume (from Otakon), and a pretty awful pic of me hehehe. I have a 2nd TV series version (darker blue hakama, lighter blue top without the black collar) which I plan on wearing to this year's Otakon. I made this costume from scratch, including Zantetsuken (carved out of balsa wood, painted with reflective paint). Zantetsuken was made out of balsa wood so that I wouldn't have to worry too much about con rules. The Hakama was based on a pattern I found online; I believe it was Sarcasm Hime's draft. The top was just made out of guess work; I am actually EXTREMELY horrible at reading patterns, so most of my costumes are made out of breaking the item into shapes and drafting a pattern from there. Sometimes, as in the case of my Jigen jacket, I'll use an old piece of clothing to base my fabric shapes on. This is, simultaneously, an extremely comfortable costume and yet an extremely PAINFUL one. Because of the binding! It's an open-shirt binding method, and as you can imagine it's not too pleasant to remove the medical tape at the end of the day. If you go too fast, you can take off skin. I've actually got a few scars around on my back and chest from it. I'm working on new methods of binding and I plan on using adhesive remover to soften the medical tape before I remove it in the future. :)

Here's a fun shot we got with a Zenigata, Jigen and Goemon! They were really nice, though I do not know their names, actually. Hehe. It was very weird for me to go around as Fujiko because I'd keep wanting to be Jigen or Goemon. I do enjoy cosplaying as Fujiko, though I much prefer going around as the boys. ^_^

Sorry about the long post. Please let me know if you need me to remove any pics or modify the post for length! Thanks!

@ PsychoShinji - I've seen you around LJ, from Angelidollinda's friend's list; welcome to the forum! I think your cosplays are pretty fantastic, particularly your ability to pull off different characters successfully. Great binding with Goemon, by the way... and I couldn't help but notice that your Zantetsuken prop resembles mine very much, right down to the paint job. :) Nice work. (I envy your Lupin-friend, and the fact that you could find yourself in a group photograph; very few people are familiar with the series at the convention I attend.)

* * *

On the subject of cosplay, my friend brought her camera over and we were finally able to upload some photographs a day or two ago from the convention. Unfortunately, of around a dozen of me, maybe only one is decent. I'm not kidding when I say that I'm not in the least bit photogenic. This one, at least, is alright.

Oh, wow, so many awesome cosplays! ^^

Psychoshinji: Welcome to the boards! ^^

oO I don't intend to be creepy, but were you at the Lupin/Bo-bo-bo outtakes at Otakon '08? oO  Your green jacket  Jigen and the Lupin with you look awfully familiar. ^^ I was the trenchcoat-less, sideburn-less Mamo Zenigata going bonkers in the registration line at you and Lupin and if you hadn't told me that there would be the outtakes, I would never have known about them. oO They were very enjoyable, by the way. ^^

Wow, you smoked a real cigarette? That's unreal, *_* I applaud your dedication and tolerance of the smoke. XD

You made the jacket from scratch? That's impressive, you must be an expert at sewing! ^^ Great Fujiko, she is so unloved at cons. : (

XD Yay, I love the pic that you got with the Zenigata, Jigen, and Goemon.X D

Goemon: I love the lighting in that picture, you look so dignified and Goemon-y. oO I mean, that's the point, obviously, but with the lighting you look more semi-celestial. : ) How did you get the pants to move?

IshikawaGoemon: Aw, thanks! :) I love your Goemon cosplay, and I think the pictures came out really nice. The hair styling is a really great touch! I'm hoping to get a new wig for Goemon soon, hehe.

Sad Cactus: Thanks so much for the kind words! :) And OMG, that is so awesome. I totally do remember you! I loved your Zenigata cosplay, and the Lupin doll you had was adorable too. :) I'm glad you could make it to the Outtakes Panel as well! I think that was a blast! You know, after the con I actually realized we'd never gotten pictures with you! If we see you again this year, I'd love to get some pics together. :) Wow, I'm glad this forum brought us together, hehe.

I have to admit to enjoying smoking... it is a guilty (albeit rare) pleasure o' mine. But I doubt I'd enjoy it if I did it as much as Jigen does, lol! Chain-smoking, eating mostly red meat, hard liquor? That man's insides must be a wreck. Poor Jigen. X3

I'll have you know that red meat, hooch, and smokes are how we here at LtT.net get things done. And by we I mean me. And by things I mean nothing.  :P

Welcome to the forums, newperson, you. Glad to see another new face, especially since it seems like we've an awful lot of lurkers who don't join.

Anyway, kudos on those swooky cosplay pics, with Goemon being my favourite above and beyond the others, with Jigen taking second because of {Makeup? Lighting?} the cheekbone thing. It's a nice touch that sells it.

Wow, that's a very Goemon-esque pose. It's a shame it doesn't have that lighting with a background of a forest or something {No photoshop!}. Speaking of the lighting, and don't take offense, I was reminded of 360 and PS3 games with the amount of bloom there is.  :D Still pretty great. Where do you live, anyway? I suspect Canada!

Thank you. :P No offense taken whatsoever, by the way; I experimented with Diffuse Glow just for kicks, after all, and thought it worked with the pose in the end. (I meant to add Jigen and Loops from screencaptures too, but my Photoshopping skills are lacking.) The regular photo is no different except that the sun gives off a much more natural light. I wish I hadn't pinned my convention badge right in plain sight, but all well!

Good point about Jigen's bad health habits. It's a wonder he can still run so fast. Then again, some people can smoke like a chimney, can stand large amounts of alcohol, and/or can eat whatever they want  and nothing happens. Maybe Jigen's that type of guy.

PsychoShinji:  Yeah, I figured I would cosplay sensitive Jigen because there's no way I could pull off the gun thing. oO;;; And the pink puppet reference would be too obscure. ^^; So "Rose And the Pistol/Shot Through the Heart" Jigen is a happy medium.

I'll be looking for you, too! ^^ Who are you going as this year so I'll know who to look for? ^^

Monday 7/20/09, 5:15 PM:

Otakon came and went and I didn't get to run into you, PsychoShinji. : ( There was at least one Lupin cosplayer who did see you, I think. oO

The totals I ran into: 6 Lupins: 2 red, 3 green, 1 Cagliostro
2 Jigens: 1 blue shirt, 1 white shirt (The one with the white shirt was IC for the entire convention: it was awessome. *__* And she/he had a perfect replica of the Magnum. ^^)

Here's my silly attempt at Lupin cosplay. ^^ My fourth attempt, this time as Jigen.   I forgot why I had ten million things in my left pocket, which is why it's bulging. oO; The jacket was actually blue and the pants black, and the hat wasn't a fedora but a flat hat, and my beard kept on falling off. : ( I didn't make a gun or a cigarette but I had the rose, trying to imitate classy Jigen in "Shot Through the Heart". The shirt is the wrong color,  but ah, well. ^^ The shirt was also short-sleeved, so I couldn't pull the sleeves out like I did with the blue and green shrits. : ( I also wasn't wearing any make-up, which will probably change next year. I got lots of pictures with other Lupin cosplayers, but I still have to find a USB cable for my camera. : I Until then, here's the picture. Otakon Photosuite is awesome. ^_^

If I shouldn't bump the thread, I'll delete this post and edit my last one. ^^

Here's a few: I'll finish posting the rest tomorrow. ^^

Double the Jigen, double the fun. : ) I ran into this Jigen at the Dealer's Room at Otakon. An enthusiastic Lupin fan on the hunt for merchandise. ^^ This year it was rather scarce.  : ( Don't ask about my unflattering pose there: I'm not sure what I was trying to do. oO; I even forgot to take off my bag. X__X

(http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/3431/doublejigencosplay.jpg) (http://img223.imageshack.us/i/doublejigencosplay.jpg/)

Another Dealer's Room run-in of happiness. ^^
(http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/3704/withgreenlupin.jpg) (http://img189.imageshack.us/i/withgreenlupin.jpg/)

I mistook this Cagliostro Lupin in the Artist's Alley for Lupin from Green vs. Red. ^^; I loved her cosplay, especially the bandages. ^^ (http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/4396/withcagliostrolupin.jpg) (http://img16.imageshack.us/i/withcagliostrolupin.jpg/)

The second green Lupin in the Artist's Alley. ^^ Yes, I know that I'm short. ^^

(http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/6602/withgreenlupin2.th.jpg) (http://img213.imageshack.us/my.php?
image=withgreenlupin2.jpg)

I mistook this woman for cosplaying Zenigata, but I'd say that it worked out pretty well. : ) It was nice to see  con-goers enjoying themselves in the dead of night, since Saturday was a slow night for the con. : (

(http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/3457/withredlupinandalmosten.jpg) (http://img189.imageshack.us/i/withredlupinandalmosten.jpg/)

Last Lupin that I saw during the convention. This one was also at Artist's Alley. ^^

(http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/2932/withgreenlupin3.jpg) (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/withgreenlupin3.jpg/)

Kickass Jigen cosplayer. He/she was in character for the entire convention. It was pretty eerie. ^^ As you can see, he/she has the cigarette down and carried a perfect copy of the Magnum. In classic Jigen fashion, pulled it right out of his/her jacket from the back of the jacket. ^^ He/she walked very smoothly and Jigen-esque, never in a hurry. Needless to say, I still have a lot to work on. ^^

Yep. XD Though when Jigen does show his eyes, it's a scary/hilarious sight. XD
oO Actually, the rose was from "The Rose And the Pistol/Shot Through the Heart", where
(click to show/hide)
Come to think of it, it's hard to ignore the dangerous implications of the rose, but I wore it to accentuate Jigen's gentlemanly, romantic side, and also to make up for the absence of the Magnum and smokes. ^^;

Ack! Hey Sad Cactus, I'm sorry I didn't reply before Otakon. I was actually dressed as Fujiko in the catsuit during the pre-reg line, and my friend Zelda was dressed as Red Jacket Lupin from the 2nd TV series. (LOL, we had a fun back and forth while I was dying of heat-stroke that went something like this):

Me: Ghh... ghhnnn... ghhh... I'm gonna... die.
Lupin: Oh god, Sarah... I am SO sorry. I'm the one who nagged you to cosplay as Fujiko to the line!
Me: Yeah... I wanted to do Goemon... it would be more breezy... *fans self* But NOOOOOO, you hate Goemon! Sheesh. No, no, it's still my fault. For listening to you. *jokingly glares at Lupin*
Lupin: 8< I'll make it up to you! I promise!!! *patpat*
Me: It's okay. <:)

Of course, when we made it into the BCC, it was a victory dance. XD I was a fool for dressing as Fujiko. I very literally almost passed out from the heat. But hey, I learned a lesson. I kept thinking, "No...no! Don't pass out... you can do it! Don't pass out... don't be the first one to be taken away from the con...no!" lol! Oh, and I realized I ain't as young as I used to be. I used to be able to wear my old Shinji Plugsuit for hours in the hot sun.

Man, I wish I coulda seen you, SCactus! But I know the masked Cagliostro Lupin in one of your pics~ :D Your pictures are really awesome!
Here is my Lupin with me as Goemon, and a very funny, very in-character Zenigata! He even gave us a speech:

"Lupin the Third. Ishikawa Goemon. You are both hereby... UNDER ARREST! *CLINK*"
Me: "Lupin... this is all your fault."
Lupin: "Chill out, Goemon. We'll be outta these in just a second!"

*Goemon Fangirl Moment*
So, I ran into a Captain Harlock while dressed as Goemon, which caused me to fangirl all over the place. As you may know, Makio Inoue did the voices of both Goemon and Harlock, so this was a fun opportunity! And Lex Lang voiced Harlock for the 2003 Endless Odyssey OAV, so that's another Goemon-Harlock parallel in the dub world as well!

/Goemon Fangirl Moment.

Oh, and I wore Jigen (Cagliostro version, wearing Clarisse's Crown!) for a bit; I had wanted to pose with my friend the Masked Lupin, but didn't get a chance. We met at a bar, but not during that time. >;3 I didn't get a pic of it at Otakon, but here's a photo of it from AZ in May. XD
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/PsychoShinji/Animazement%202009/IMG_3463.jpg)

Anyway, I'm sorry if the pics are too much for the post. Please let me know and I'll take 'em down or size 'em down, etc.

Thanks for the awesome picture post, Sad Cactus! I am sure I will see you next year, for sure!! :D I love the idea you had of doing the "Rose and a Pistol" version of Jigen. That's adorable and clever~

Yes, I heard from another Lupin cosplayer that you were dressed as Fujiko. ^^ Awesome, your friend was dressed as red jacket? Awesome! ^__^ She always does the sideburns really well. ^^ Man, you must have been BOILING in that catsuit. oO; And I thought I had it tough in a hat, jacket, shirt, tie, pants, and beard. XD

I don't blame you for almost passing out---it was scorching this year. The line moved slower than last year, and there were no clouds. : ( Kudos to you for biting the bullet and sticking through the heat. ^^ Aw...Zelda hates Goemon? That's too bad. : ( It'd be even breezier if you did Goemon swimming---but then again that might not be allowed. OO;;;;

You know the masked Cagliostro Lupin? Awesome! ^__^ It's great to see people that you know--or meet them next year! ^^ Thanks, hooray for USB cables. ^_^

Awesome!! Is the Lupin/Zeni/Goemon picture also from Otakon? The floor looks familiar, anyways. XD Yay, a Zeni cosplayer! I love his look of triumph there, and the two finger victory pose. XD Yay for IC cosplayers. XD It's good you found him! I saw no Zenis this year, just a detective cosplayer that happened to be with red Lupin. ;_;

I like Zelda's cocky look and your "damn you, Lupin" look. Your Goemon outfit is perfect, great job! ^^ XD I like how you did a mini-skit when the Zeni cosplayer cuffed you. Did anyone get to watch? : )

You with the Captain Harlock is awesome! There's double the Goemon! XD Awesome Zantetsuken, by the way. ^^

Whoo! Nice beard! And the crown..*_* You are my hero, PsychoShinji. ^^ I love that scene in Cagliostro---Jigen has impeccable fashion tastes. : ) You made the Princess!Jigen's crown beautifully. ^^

Thanks for sharing all of the pictures! ^__^ Awesome cosplay this year, you and Zelda, like always! ^_^ Next year I'm going to find you guys and take a billion pictures. XD

Nice photographs, from the two of you; definitely looks like a lot of fun. I have to envy you fellows for representing the Lupin folk well - not enough L III cosplayers up here, unfortunately.

Why I think all the cosplayers tend to forget about the Pink Jacket Lupin and Jigen? I never saw them and it would be just awesome to have the chance of someone cosplaying them

Thanks so much, guys! :) I'm really glad to be able to talk with other Lupin fans and cosplayers. :3

Ooh! Ooh! And HyperInSugar- I'm really excited that you mentioned that, because my Lupin (in the photograph wearing a red jacket at the time ;3) and I are going to cosplay as Pink Jacket Lupin and Jigen very soon! We wanted to do it for Otakon, but I didn't have enough time to make a new suit. I also would've had to get a brown wig and brown fur for the beard and didn't have enough time to look for it. XD But it's coming soon, hopefully in the next few cons! :D We're both really excited to do it, and love that series. If you've seen Pink Jacket episode 10: "Lay a Plot with the Treasure", you may remember the amusing scene where Jigen works out in a VERY 80's blue and yellow aerobic outfit and then gobbles down hamburgers. My Lupin DARED me to cosplay as Aerobic-Workout Jigen. I-I think I want to do it. XD

Here's a sshot for reference:
How very, very amusing.

And:
...A very cute scene in which Lupin says something to the effect of: "You know, if you are always (SFX: "Pakupaku"="munchMunch") Munching like that, you're going to get a paunch."
Jigen replies something along the lines of (translated literally): "Don't be stupid. It's okay because of the exercise." *headpalm* Oh, Jigen. We love you.

So, yes! We will cosplay Lupin III Part III in the near future! :D It should be a lot of goofy fun~

Yesssss! That would be awesome! ^__^ I've considered cosplaying pink jacket, but I don't make my own costumes (I throw together whatever's in the closet XD) and it's hard enough to find a red jacket---finding a pink jacket and a cotton-candy blue shirt is almost impossible. X_X Then there's Jigen's famous orange shirt. XD Another rarity. : ( I guess making your costume has its advantages, especially with those hard-to-find colors--you can just pick your fabric and then go.

Workingout!Jigen? OO XD That'll be the Lupin cosplay of the decade!! ^__^ It makes sense that he works out so much, considering that whenever it's him vs. Lupin when it comes to food, Jigen always wins---and hence overeats. XD Thanks for translating that dialogue, PsychoShinji. I've always wanted to know what they were saying during those many eating scenes. ^^ Anyway, I second wakomu! ^^ Looking forward to seeing you in Jigen's exercise outfit! ^__^

Heh. You're welcome. Though now I feel like a wimp for totally abandoning the idea of cosplaying at the one con I've attended so far this year, all the more so with all these fabulous cosplay pics people have been posting recently (though given my generally lousy experience at Comic-con, as well as the heat wave, I'm convinced it was the right decision).

Back in 2004, I went as Zenigata for Halloween, partially because it gave me an opportunity to wear my fedora inside the school building.
However, there was a small problem:  I had no trenchcoat.  My aunt did, but...it was green:

He wears a green coat in series 3, so it's like a combination! Anyway, great cosplay! I like the pants and your fedora. ^^

Prop that I made for an upcoming convention. This is my rendition of the pink puppet that was mentioned in "The Target is 555 Meters Away".

Thanks, PsychoShinji! ^^ I know, that was hilarious when they just walked off, claiming that they had been working too hard. ^^

Wanted to cosplay Zenigata, but I made one of the sleeves of the jacket too narrow, so I screwed up the entire jacket. So it ended up being a modified version of amnesiac! Zenigata in Sweet Lost Night.

Just received a small batch of pictures from the convention I attended, and made a quick collage of them. I eagerly await more, since I'm nothing close to photogenic. :/

Spoiler-tagged for size:

My best friend is the Jigen in the lighter-coloured shirt. She was such a pleasure to be with, though I very much enjoyed my other Jigen-buddy's company. About that blue thing in my keikogi - an anime character passing by handed that tissue-paper flower to me and my friend stuck it there; I unfortunately forgot to remove it when the photographs were taken.

There was enough that made the convention itself unpleasant and unexciting, but interacting with people is where the fun happened.

Though I already mentioned this to you, the rest of you should get a pained laugh out of this: My best buddy, as Jigen, was mistaken for an Amish fellow, as Abe Lincoln (three times, I'd say), and at the very worst and most surprising, George Washington. I sure HOPE that fellow meant Lincoln, and that is saying a lot.

Go-Go: Awesome pictures!!! You, elegant, dignified, perfectly stoic amidst the antics of Jigen and Jigen-- and then you've got your light-hearted Jigen buddies strolling along, having a swell time---I love all three of your cosplays, and I love the beards--double the beard, double the fun!  I like how the Jigen in the lighter-colored shirt has her shirt hanging out and your other Jigen friend has her shirt tucked in. ^^ Shows differences in characterizations.^^  Thanks for sharing! ^^

Just got back from a con with mah Jigen, Fujiko, and Zeni. ^_^

Me and Jigen's cosplayer have been Lupin fans for a while, but Brandon and Jessica had no idea what the show was! They did an amazing job, though--watched a few episodes and a movie and managed to get the characters down! Zeni even had a bent-knee walk. XD

If you wanna know what we did, here's a summary from a pm:

It was pretty great. For a while, me and Jigen walked around asking about how to get to New York from the ALA hotel--Jigen had gotten shitfaced drunk earlier and made Goemon mad, so he cut the Fiat up and Jigen's magnum dropped into a lake... XD

And of course, we had a diamond and a bag full of fake money, and if people helped us, we gave them a gold coin.

THEN once we got our Fujiko and Zenigata, we went around making human walls and hid from Zeni until he left. Everybody always pointed him in the wrong direction. Granted, we planned some fun things, like a few times where we were waiting for the elevator and it opened up with Zenigata inside. Then of course we had times where Zeni cuffed me but asks for directions and I slip the cuffs off and leave. People got a kick outta' that! ^_^

Though, I did a solo sweep of the place and had some pretty ladies uncuff me (I had my hands cuffed behind my back). It was a really fun time, and one girl was even really hesitant to reach into my pocket, like a punching fist would fly out or something.

The best thing was that they were about to play 2 eps of Lupin in the little theater... Jigen, Fujiko, and I walk in and ask what they're playing, and then after a while Zeni bursts in and we try to hide ourselves with newspapers. But just as he almost arrests us, the movie started and we all enjoyed it.

Well, I always liked green jacket Zenigata, though we saw a green trenchcoat and I was totally tempted to through together a pink jacket Zenigata! :O

But we couldn't find the proper colors for the rest of it. :I

I just feel terrible we only had 4 and couldn't get a Goemon. It's hard to make a Goemon outfit, much less use a stranger to play him. I think one of the reasons we did so well was our chemistry as friends already.

Oh yeah, I totally knew Lupin was a good choice for live performance. With all the Hetalia and KH costumes, it was a breath of fresh air to at least bring in the old school kings of anime. And god knows they can't perform for the people like the Lupin gang. 8)

Quote
That is so awesome! ^___^ How were you able to get people not in on it to point him in the wrong direction, though?

lol, I think a good 75 percent knew who we were and wanted to help. The other 25 probably noticed Zeni as law enforcement, and we DID have diamonds and money bags. ^_^,

Wow, Hokori! Your cosplay stroll must've been very fun for both you, your partners and the bystanders. (http://www.anikaos.com/0000-pika/kaos-pika28.gif)

It's too bad i don't get the chance to cosplay. The main reasons are 1. I mostly lack the sources and material to make a costume; 2. I hardly go to any conventions, as i'm not the type that can survive in overpopulated spaces; 3. None of my real-life friends are true anime fans.
With the way things are now, i feel a little lonely in this manga/anime world. (http://www.anikaos.com/0024-angelstar_kaos/angelstar-kaos087.gif)

This weekend I will be reprising my role as Lupin Sansei at Ohayocon-a much thinner version than before.

This is me back in 2005. This year I am a 145 lb Lupin. The red jacket in the photo above still fits, even if it makes me look a little broad. Good thing though since I'll need to look masculine.

I had to purchased a new wig. I found an Elvis one with a slight pompadour at a local costume shop. It looks somewhat like this:

It should work out nicely.

Hey, I'm a little late in replying to this, but I hope you had fun at Ohayocon, LadyLupin! And congratulations on the weight loss (if it was intentional)! :)

This weekend (well, tomorrow to be exact) my Lupin and I will be reprising our costumes again for Katsucon. It's been a little crazy with the snow, but I've been able to dig my way out just in time. I'll be cosplaying as Jigen (gonna try a slightly different approach for makeup), Goemon, and Fujiko again. For Fujiko this may be the last time I cosplay as her, since I was just a substitute for a girl we'd been trying to get to cosplay as her for a while and it's looking like all systems are go for her in the next few cons. :3 I hope everyone has a safe winter convention season. I'll try to post some pics when I get back.

;D Awesome pics, guys! Well, with Otakon 2010 just around the corner I'd like to see who's going to be there in their Lupin III cosplay! And I hope to see you this year, SadCactus! I've been checking periodically to see if there will be any Lupin III based programming this year (ah, I nearly exploded with joy when they played "Fuma Conspiracy" in 2008). I doubt we'll know for sure until very close to the con, as they usually never reveal finalized programming until a few days before. My Lupin will be wearing red jacket periodically, and I will be wearing Fujiko (with a new wig this time), Goemon, and Jigen (new hat and wig). I hope to see some fellow Lupin III fans there!

PS- For the rest of the time, I'll be wearing Toon Link (Zelda: Windwaker Game), Ash Ketchum/Satoshi (likely for the Pre-reg line on Thursday), Astro Boy, and Shinji Ikari (Evangelion). If you see me please say hi! I'd love to talk Lupin with you guys!

Unfortunately, I'm kind of tied down at home with other things. I don't think I'll be able to go an upcoming convention in my area, either. It saddens me, but there's always a trade-off. ^^;

I gotta say, when my Lupin and I saw you in the pre-reg line back in 2008 it was a really great moment especially because that was my first time cosplaying as Jigen and I was a bit nervous- Imagine how happy we both were to run into you in your Zenigata costume! Well, I hope that all is well and that we can run into each other at a con again next year! I'll make sure to take as many Lupin-related pics as I can and post 'em here for you.  :) Take care and thanks for the well-wishes!

 8) Wheww... I'm STILL recovering from Otakon. There weren't too many other Lupin III cosplayers there this year, which I was a bit disappointed to see. A couple of Nabeshins (the "Afro" Lupin character from Excel Saga), maybe two or three Lupins, a friend of ours who is an excellent Green Jacket Lupin cosplayer (he's actually the Lupin in the group shot I posted from Katsucon 2009) showed up while wearing one of his other costumes and we chatted for a bit... There was one Zenigata cosplayer that I saw, and he appeared to be busy at the moment so I didn't ask him for a photo.

My Lupin and I dressed as Lupin and Fujiko briefly on Friday evening and then we were Lupin and Jigen all day on Sunday for the screening of the American DVD release of "Lupin III: First Contact." That was GREAT. I own it on DVD and caught it back when it was fansub-only, but there really is nothing like seeing a favorite anime on the big screen with other fans. I especially loved how people were cheering for each character as they were introduced. Some catcalls for Fujiko's scenes, lots of laughs for Lupin, a few "Oh YEAH"s for Zenigata's handling of street thugs, some quiet cheers for Jigen (and an explosion of laughter during the moment where he laughs while behind bars in the mob boss' hideout), and some good-natured laughing and giggling for Goemon's moments. Overall, we really felt the LOVE in that little screening room. :) It was quite packed, too, for a Sunday midday screening. My Lupin and I hung around my house for days before and after the con, so we got a few good shots of our costumes in nicer settings than a con might allow. I'll post a few of those pics here soon! Let me know if anyone has any more Otakon-Lupin-cosplay-related questions and I'll do my best to answer 'em. I hope to see forum members at next year's con or any of 'em in between, especially Sadcactus!  ;D

I'm planning my cosplay for Ohayocon. I've done Lupin and Fujiko, but this time I'm planning to go as a Lupin character I've always wanted to do. I'm not disclosing who it is just yet. I want to make sure I can get the supplies I need first.  ;)

Got my costume nearly complete. I just have one more item to get and fix up my prop.

BTW is anyone planning to attend Ohayocon at the end of January? I'd love to participate in a Lupin photoshoot. =D

Next weekend  is Ohayocon. I will be participating in the cosplay masquerade. I've done Lupin and Fujiko in years past, but this year I am cosplaying as a Goemon. I'm also rooting for my friend, Carol. She is cosplaying as Diana (human form) from Sailor Moon, as a sailor scout. The costume was designed by my bff, Jackie, whom will be cosplaying as a Little Sister from Bioshock. I plan on getting pics.

Here's a photo someone took of me at Ohayocon this past weekend. I apologize about the fuzziness. It was taken shortly after the masquerade. One of the judges told me I almost won the novice division, but I lost by a fraction of a point.

I know, but each judge has his or her taste. They did love my costume though.

I was waiting for an elevator and some guy started freaking out when he saw me. Guess he was a Goemon/Lupin Sansei fan. XD

Besides my Lupin the 3rd Poster Recreations, I have done about a dozen regular cosplay photos out at this college campus. Or rather, it's the biggest college campus in the country, the Martha Barry University I think it's called.

They have this gorgeous castle dorm room, and a cobble-stone church up on a hill in the mountains near the back of the campus. I haven't been able to take pictures at the castle due to poor grass and weather conditions lately, but the church proved to be a useful and lovely backdrop for some of my favorite cosplay photos.

Nice costume! Yeah that's the thing, you have to be the right gender to be noticeable. It happened with me, I cosplayed as Zenigata, while my dad cosplayed as Lupin and my dad was much more noticed than me. I don't think a single person recognized me. It was fun though!

You can keep up with all my old and new ones here: http://filmmakerj.deviantart.com/gallery/25417278
I also put photos of all my new Lupin memorabilia in another gallery on that site.

And I've currently started work on the "Gold of Babylon" movie poster Recreation. I had previously recreated the VHS/BGM cover. But now it is time to get the actual DVD cover.

Also, a few people have asked me to make an imitation (or rather the look will be imitated, the story will be original) of the Monkey Punch manga. Where I think I will take photos, and then draw over them, exaggerating features and trying to give it a hybrid look or something.

I'm not exactly sure, but I know that people want the manga, so I shall comply. Hopefully soon.

I don't go to cons anymore, but me and my brother went to a yearly con in Durham NC called Animazement. All four years our cosplay was Lupin themed. All four years he went as Lupin (with a black shirt and gold tie, a la "Dead or Alive). For the first three years, I went as Jigen but I could never get the beard down the way I liked it, so the last year, I went as Zenigata instead. While we were there the last year, somebody took a few pictures of us for these "postcards" he was making. Here's all three postcards.

My latest Lupin the 3rd Re-creation is finally up.
It is a Promotional image to the Pink Jacket series.

Below are images of the original, and my cosplay remake. Everything I am wearing in this image is real, they have just all been re-colorized to match the original image. Also, every single item on this re-creation image was completely re-drawn from scratch. Nothing remains of the original image: Fujiko, the clouds, the buildings in front and center (built from Legos), the sparks, the lights; the hair and beard on Jigen, Lupin, Goemon, and Zenigata; Everything.

Is anyone from these boards heading to the MCM Expo in London this weekend? It's probably the biggest comic / anime / cosplay event in the UK and it lasts for two days (26th and the 27th of May.) I'll be making an attempt at a Lupin cosplay while I'm there! I don't exactly have his hair or build, but I have everything else even down to the pointy boots. I'm pretty much just Red Jacket Lupin but with black pants. Would be cool to see others from here going. :) I'm hoping I run into a Zenigata somewhere just to yell "TOT-SAN!"

I won't be able to go to London this year.

As a consolation, here's my Lupin III cosplay with a blue tie !
I guess I grew a bit of facial hair lately so I look a bit less like Lupin (unless he just got out of a long trip  ;)):

Going to a small con called animaritime this week. I Will be going as Red Jacket Series Lupin. Constructive criticism is welcome. Also, before I get flack, strict Canadian firearm laws prevented me from importing an airsoft replica of the Walther P-38, so I have to use a Toy Luger :(

I have no idea why no one has commented on this picture already but you look great! While your hair and such looks nothing like Lupin you kind of make the role your own in that way and seem to have the laid back fun attitude any good Lupin would need.

Seriously 10/10

Those Fujiko and Lupin cosplays that PsychoShinji just put up look great too! That's probably the best Fujiko I've ever seen :p.

Thank you so much, everyone! :) I absolutely adore the way my friend pulls off Lupin. Like many others on these forums, she just embodies the humor and attitude of him so well. And it was really cool to see all of the Lupin cosplayers in one place for the Lupin III panel at Otakon. I only wish Richard Epcar could've come to do another of his hilarious Outtake panels, hehehe. I'm really inspired by the cool manips I've seen here...She and I have talked for a while about doing a Lupin gang compilation using Photoshop.

Lemme know if you wanna see more cosplay pics. She and I took a whole bunch using a light pole thingy that graced the lobby of the Hyatt. And derp, I'll try to remember to actually size 'em down and not make them massive and upside down. X<

Escaped from a Zenigata in the crowd after baiting him with a scream of "Pops".

And finally, I'll leave you all with a few pictures of a creepy and lecherous Lupin at a rave. The last one being exceptionally bizarre.

I've got a bunch more but either my eyes are completely closed or I'm clearly wasted in them. I also thought that I had a picture with PsychoShinji from after the Lupin panel but it appears to have disappeared from my friend's camera  :(

Very nice set of shots there Rockman.  8)

I'll be going as Cagliostro Lupin with the head bandages to the Atlanta, GA DragonCon this year. I went as Mamo Lupin with the black shirt and yellow tie two years back, but there weren't any other Lupins or Zenigatas to be seen, which was a disappointment.  :( Hopefully there will be one or two of them this time since the new "Fujiko Mine" series has been picking up interest in the franchise.

I'm new, but this is probably my favorite thread on the board! I love seeing everyone's costume ideas, I just wish I could attend more events to meet some of you. I'm new to the Lupin and Lupin cosplay scenes, but I'm hoping to debut two Fujikos for Anime Weekend Atlanta this year: her black catsuit and her red spotted coat from The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. I don't have anything completed yet, only WIPs but if those are okay I'd be happy to share them. I'll be at Dragon*Con as well, but not in a Lupin costume sadly.

There's also going to be a panel and cosplay meetup for Lupin at Anime Weekend Atlanta this year, so if you're able to go I highly recommend it. The link to the cosplay thread is here: http://www.awa-con.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15357 (http://www.awa-con.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15357)

Sadly, I was unable to get more than this single cosplay photo while at DragonCon this year. But it is the main one I wanted to get, thankfully.

I mainly was hoping to get photos with characters that had something to do with Lupin in some way. The others I was hoping to snag were Spike Spiegle, Nausicaa, and Lina Inverse. But here we have Haruko Hara Hara from GAINAX's "Fooly Cooly"

Can you guess why I wanted all of those photos?

Here r some old pics of me and my friends (Inuyasha and Kikyo) doing doing my very first cosplay as Afro Lupin from the Lupin III Anniversary OVA, Green Vs. Red, from Kami Con 2013: Season 5 in Birmingham, Alabama. I just wish I got more pics with other more there. Only two or three people actually know who I was. :'( :'( :'(

Here's a link to checkout some of my pics from the convention:

Pleasure. ^^

I can safely say I am now able to cosplay all Lupin III outfits from the 6 series! Though my green jacket is a bit dark. ^^'

I'll probably do a photoshoot later in the year. ;)
