Title: Mamo and Kirby: Closer than you think.
Post by: alljackets67 on June 10, 2009, 11:51:53 pm
I just read a Wikipedia post that says that Soji Yoshikawa, director of the Secret of Mamo, is also the director of Kirby: Right Back at Ya! o_O I don't know how acurate it may be, but it looked ligitimate to me (for wikipedia at least.)

Whoa, really?! oO That would explain the fascination with a big round super-powered pink thing. ^^

As he wrote Mamo's true form in the script, little did he know that he would go on to direct another, less revolting, pink character with super-human powers. XD

Hm, I wonder if Kirby ate Mamo, if he would gain any abilities. oO

The ability to have an awful ending, maybe?  ;D

MetaKnight- "He is now Brain Kirby! In this form, he can fly into the sun, following a completely out there ending!" XD

XD about what MetaKnight would say about *Brain Kirby*. oO What's his beef with Kirby, anyways?

Come to think of it, in one of the Kirby games the sun and the moon are fighting, so a giant brain flying into the sun isn't too bizarre by those standards. XD Was Soji Yoshikawa ever involved with the games or just the anime?

I want to make a "sucking" joke, but nothing comes to mind as of yet.
AHHH! BUT IT'S THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY!! THINK!!!

nope, still nuttin.

I think Metaknight just wants to help Kirby, but is really pushy about it.

Soji Yoshikawa was only involved in the anime; but if the sun is fighting the moon, then it fits perfectly for him to do the anime! =D

It's hard to do. Mine was kind of lame, so just start with whatever comes to mind. =)

Wow, he hides his friendship with Kirby really well, then. oO What is he, anyway? Isn't he this purple blob under his mask?

That's true, the spirit of Kirby is a little bizarre in general. You've got a food-loving pink baby/boy with red shoes eating up his enemies, turning them into stars, or in Kirby Superstar, his friends. oO Have you ever played Kirby's Adventure, for the NES? I've never been able to beat it. X_X

In some of the games, when you defeat Metaknight, he looks nothing more than a purple Kirby under all his armor. I heard from someone that he wa actually a Star Warrior.

Sadly, I've never had the joy of an NES system, so I never did get to play the original Kirby's Adventure. I think my first Kirby game was on the Gameboy Color. I can't remember which title it was, but I know I also had Kirby Tilt and Tumble. =)

MetaKnight: ::Gasp.:: I've been found! ::cape wipe.:: oO I remember that scene in Kirby Superstar. XD Silly MetaKnight wants to be all intimidating, then you find out he's just a purple puffball. XD Is a Star Warrior what Kirby is?

Aw, that's too bad. : ( If it was on the Gameboy color, maybe it was the color version of the first Kirby game on the Game Boy? I remember straining my eyes to see the greenish/yellow screen and when Kirby got hit, he would start flashing for a few seconds but you couldn't see him and then before you know it Kirby would run into another enemy. ^^; How was Tilt and Tumble? I'm assuming that Kirby is the pinball? ^^

It may have been, but I can't quite remember. Luckily I haven't given away any of my Gameboy stuff, I even have a Gameboy Printer! XD Kirby Tilt and Tumble was a game where you would tilt the game boy to roll a ball version of Kirby across the screen. If you had to jump, you would shake the Gameboy up and he would jump. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB_YstyUwgs&feature=related

The cartridge design was some what reminiscent of the first Pokemon Pinball with the large bulge at the top of it to acommidate the extra software.

A Gameboy Printer? How does that work? ^^

Thanks for the link! oO Wow, so it's like a combination of a platform game with pinball. Looks like a fun game, but I think I would get dizzy watching Kirby spin for hours on end. ^^

I think the Star Warrior thing is just from the anime.
Anyway, what's up with all this talk about Meta Knight?  King Dedede is the coolest character in the series.  Just play Super Smash Bros. Brawl's "Subspace Emissary" mode to the end to see what I mean.  And for an example in Kirby's own games,

He breaks apart the Star Rod, preventing anyone from dreaming.  Kirby goes and retrieves all the pieces, defeats Dedede, and reassembles the Star Rod.  Then the monstorous Nightmare invades everyone's dreams, and Kirby realaizes that Dedede broke apart the Star Rod to protect everyone from Nightmare.

I like King Dedede. He is a good character and the series would be nothing without him. Though, I don't think King Dedede was that nice too often in the Anime which is why some people might not like him.

Well, since anything in the game world can be subject to irrelevent change, I thought that way, but I think that it is probably his real form.

I like hanging on to all of it, I'm even considering my first series DS (the big bulky silver one) a collectible since they got out-moded by the DS-lite. Though, I like going into Game Stop and seeing that they sell used Gameboy Advanced games now.

A Gameboy Printer was a small grey Gameboy shaped device that would print off of certain compatible systems http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5a2IL4HU4&feature=related This makes me want to start using it again. lol. XD

It does get dizzy after a while and it would sometimes prove frusturating to make Kirby jump; also, the way you shake the Gameboy to make Kirby jump looks like your either mad at it or you're trying shake it to make your Gameboy work. The guy in the vedio has some sweet skills though. I was never that good.

Thanks for the link! Wow, that's one sweet device. ^^ I'd love to print out a sprite of my favorite character in Super Mario RPG, Dr. Topper. Though that's for the SNES. Is that included in the compatible systems?
Title: Re: Mamo and Kirby: Closer than you think.
Post by: alljackets67 on June 14, 2009, 01:36:13 am
I think that it's only compatible with Gameboy Color games and can be used only with the Gameboy Color and the Gameboy Advanced and SP. Though, I only knew that it was compatible with Super Mario Brothers Deluxe when I first got it.

That does stink. Though, the oldest thing I have is a Gameboy Color. I'm getting this feeling from talking about these nostalgic Nintendo things and it's awesome. =) I took so many Nintendo things back in the day for granted, like the Nintendo 64 and Playstation one that my old school's after school program would have. There's alot I'm remebering now like the Pokemon Gameboy Color.

I hope Starfy will be good.

True.  I think his character design was changed to reflect that.  Compare his look from Super Star (http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/kirby/en/images/7/74/Dededekss.jpg) to that of the TV series (http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/kirby/en/images/4/4c/Dededehammer.gif)

There's just something about video games that brings back fond memories of days gone past, isn't there?
I don't mean to brag, but aside from a Virtual Boy, I own pretty much ever Nintendo system (yes, even Game & Watch).  So many memories...
Also, i've heard good things about Starfy.  I've known about the series for a few years now, mostly because my man Wario guest starred in one of the Japanese games.

He looks a lot more antagonistic in the TV Series as apossed to the chibi style in Super Star.

Video games can do that. =) I have many fond memories of Super Mario Sunshine and the crazy Super Smash Brother Melee fights I'd have at my friends houses. I really prefer some of the older memories from when I could remember my first Gameboy Color.

That's awesome having such a huge collection! I doubt I'll ever have a collection that big, but I love hanging on to whatever I get and watching it become vintage. =)

Starfy looks very Kirby-esque so I got excited. If it's been around for a few years then there's plenty of new releases to be seen in the near future. Wario in Starfy sounds interesting since from the look of it you would never suspect any collaberation of the two. Cool! =)

Ah, Gameboy color...that was your first, right? ^^ oO When I got a Gameboy Color, I was surprised that it was in color. Except for the SEGA game gear, the handheld systems I was acquainted with were in black-and-white--sometimes green-and-white, depending on the brightness. Bye, bye eyes. XD

I remember playing Pokémon Blue on the Game Boy Color and was wowed that everything had a blue tint. Then Pokémon Yellow was actually in color, if I'm not mistaken. The good old days when stunning graphics weren't the big deal--wow, don't I sound old? XD

Quote

Whoops, didn't mean to leave that impression. oO That doesn't sound like me, to have a main villain as a most favorite character. I love both Dedede and MetaKnight--and Dedede does have seniority--^^;; But of all the characters in Kirby, my favorite are the minor enemies--Waddle Dee with his parasol, Waddle Doo with his one tuft of hair. XD oO Yes, I must gush. Where else can you express love for characters if not on forums like this? X_X It's not like you can just walk up to someone and start talking about Kirby, much less express admiration for any of the characters in the Kirby universe, let alone any video game universe. I'm sorry if I offended your tastes by gushing, but I can't help it. : (

That's scary. Oo It's like how Bowser changes size depending on the occasion. Small and a little bigger than Mario in Super Mario RPG, large in Super Mario 64, gigantic in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Yoshi's Island. Or wait--is Baby Bowser different from Bowser?

I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but I wanna give it anyway.  It's not a bad game by any means, but it's the weakest of the 3D Super Marios.  You'd be better off playing 64 or Galaxy.

Well, like I said, it's a great game.  It improves on some things from 64, like graphics, camera, and storyline (yeah, a Mario game with an actual story!).  My only real gripes about the game is that F.L.U.D.D felt pretty gimmicky, and that there wasn't as much platforming as I had hoped, which is a big no-no for a Super Mario game.

Quote

Super Mario Galaxy is basically Super Mario 64 in space, but with the improvements from Sunshine, and adding a whole bunch of awesomeness. To quote our very own Zoo Station:
That game is nothing short of perfection.
I'd probably be my favorite game of all time if I didn't have such nostalgic ties to Super Mario World.

The Gameboy color was my first. lol. I was about 4 I think. The first games I had for it were Pokemon Red and SMB DX. To this day, I'm stuck on the second to last level of SMB DX and I haven't finished Pokemon Red (or any other Pokemon game I have. X_X) Pokemon Yellow! I was so excited because Pikachu followed you around and that I didn't have to catch wild Pikachus all the time to get him.  From what I remember, Pokemon Yellow would change colors depending on where you went. You don't sound old at all Sad Cactus. (Ow! My hip! X_X) It's not getting old, it's gaining knowledge and realizing the newer generations will never have what we had. lol.

Let Kirby be disscused with open minds and arms!!!! Waddle Doo! The most unsung character in the franchise in my opinion.

Super Mario Sunshine was pretty fun in my opinion. The tropical settings where really fun. I never truely finished the game having not collected all the Shine Sprites. It did take a long while to beat. F.L.U.D.D. was a bit of a rip. Galaxy was a real treat I must say.

On that note, have you ever played Mystery Dungeon? It's my favorite Pokémon game because you play as a Pokémon, and you'd have to eat periodically to keep your belly full, else you would pass out. oO

That's a very insightful way to look at it. Our generation had the best videogames, the best cartoons--we also had the tail end of the Cold War but I feel bad for the younger generation today, having to grow up with all of this crap. Life's so much more complicated now.

Quote

Yes! ^^Along with all the other minor enemies like Sir Kibble, Poppy Bros. Jr., he is pretty neglected. I can't get over his hair. If not for the hair he would look like Waddle Dee but he's got the big eye that shoots lasers and the hair---and he's red. oO It's weird, why are round, red characters so appealing? There's Waddle Doo, there's Mr. Noisy from the Mr. Men Show--oh, wait, have you ever seen the Mr. Men Show?

Oh, yeah---wasn't his sprite as big as your character? For some reason I remember him being huge. XD Ah, so it wasn't in true color like Ruby and Sapphire or Mystery Dungeon? Huh, wow, it's been so long. oO

On that note, have you ever played Mystery Dungeon? It's my favorite Pokémon game because you play as a Pokémon, and you'd have to eat periodically to keep your belly full, else you would pass out. oO

Pikachu's sprite was the same size as your character so he looked HUGE! o_O Pokemon Yellow wasn't in true color, but true rainbow. lol. I never did play Mystery Dungeon. My gaming has sadly dwindled with the aspect of other obligations due to school or personal life. =(

That's a very insightful way to look at it. Our generation had the best videogames, the best cartoons--we also had the tail end of the Cold War but I feel bad for the younger generation today, having to grow up with all of this crap. Life's so much more complicated now.

Some of it's good, but the rest is crap. =/ They never grew up with simple games or lived through something as big as the Pokemon franchise in America (or your nose bleed in the Random Conversation Thread. XD) They've all grown up complexity and expect the best from everything they play or they hate it. Even though I tend dip into this generation (does being born in 1992 count?), there is a very large feeling of generation gap that I have with my friends. I have some difficulty with seriously complex games (I can't do combos so I hit all the buttons.) I also tend to get along better with people older than me. X_X I'm an outcast of my own generation. Also, I'm not as dramatic as the current generation is with life issues (my emotions don't bend like a twig because I'm upset at something stupid like losing my iPod because I failed a test I didn't study for.) Not trying to sound mean or nasty. =( Just venting the loneliness.

Men Show?

Red characters tend to be like a slap in the face with their color. Add that fact plus a million Waddle Dee and you have the most unforgetable minor character in a series. lol. I must say, it's not that I have seen the Mr. Men Show, it's the fact that I watch it that makes me know who Mr. Noisy is. =D It's one of my favorite shows for some reason! Yay!

Yay, Shine Sprites! Ah, right, since it's a Mario game, I guess you have to collect everything to be truly finished with it. oO  But you got to the final boss, so that's half beating it, at least. ^^ Wow, three people who vouch for Galaxy. Yay for living under a rock, I've never seen it before. X__X

Yay for half beating everything! Don't feel bad Sad Cactus, I almost missed Galaxy too. lol. That reminds me, I need clean the mold from under my rock. Spring was several seasons ago, but I was still under my rock.

OO Glitches are evil. >< And sometimes it doesn't happen because you used a :cough.:: Gameshark but it just happens due to a flaw, and then an exclamation mark is supposed to appear when you go up the stairs and then...nothing. That's what stunk. Electric types are ineffective against rock types, and it's not like the TV series where I can trigger the fire alarm and have to sprinklers come on. That's also what many of my battles were like, one or two good hits and that was it. Oh that was the worst glitch ever! It changed color depending on where you were, such as a city may be blue, then you go to the next town over and the hue is green. When I do get to play, it's a marathon as well. Though, with all of the summer stuff I need to do like summer reading, band camp, and the summer class, I barely find time. =( I still have not touched my Kirby Super Star since Christmas when I got it, and it's still sitting there. ;_; I actually felt like crying as I typed that.

It's not that I didn't expect it all, but the sheer mass and quantity of super quality games were overwhelming. At least there are some game companies that can still make simple games with heart. I actually won a Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournement in my technical theatre class with Kirby and just hitting any button I could think of. Oh how I've got them generation gap blues. =/ It's also that when I talk to some people in my generation, it's all super-hyper overdrive stuff with them and it makes things less interesting. Even their lives are rushed too. They try to speed things up thinking that it means getting to do cooler stuff quicker and or being more adult. When I talk to older people, everything is more calm and enjoyable than being cramed in your face at the speed of light. I actually think I've done that before many times, making older people feel young. I didn't lose my iPod though, that was just an example that I hear about from people that I know. Yay! Yes, I love the Mr. Men Show! ^^ I'm eagerly awaiting their second season--it's supposed to come out this year. ^^ I feel a little bad for Mr. Quiet who lives RIGHT next to Mr. Noisy, but Mr. Noisy can't help himself---oO I think he's usually a musician in the show? And of course, because he's Mr. Noisy. ^^; I like how he, Mr. Tickle, and Mr. Messy form a triple terror for Mr. Persnickety in the Circus episode. XD I bet that they started playing badly on purpose when it came time for them to play in front of the audience. XD

I think what I like about the Mr. Men Show is that it's a kid's show, but the dialogue is still enjoyable. I remember when Mr. Happy and Little Miss Sunshine in the Mr. and Miss books were genuinely happy and full of sunshine, but you can detect this subtle note of sarcasm in both their voices, as if they're only smiling for the camera and they really hate everyone's guts---maybe not that strongly, but I don't think that the ones in the TV show are as happy and full of sunshine as their names imply. What do you think?

No way! oO That's really amazing! I've never watched Duck Dodgers, but I'm looking at his resume and I guess I've heard him without even knowing it: he played various roles in Hunchback of Notre Dame, (No wonder I subconsciously got a kick out of it even though I really can't stand the bastardization of Claude Frollo in that version) Bob Bergen was also  in Toy Story 2, Rocky And Bullwinkle, Johnny Bravo, WALL-E--oh wow! He was in Up, also!!! On a side note, have you seen Up? I cried within the first five minutes of that movie. OO I seriously had thought it was going to be upbeat, and then--BAM! No, mold isn't too gross. ^^; I was being silly. XD Yay for old music!! ^^ That's great that you like the oldies. What's new isn't necessarily good---what's new isn't necessarily bad, either--but lately, it's just been bad. BAD. BAD. And okay, maybe that's the spirit of this age or whatever, but nowadays--oh, my God, have you heard "Disco Stick"? I can't believe that this tuneless dreck even sells--no wait--yeah, I can believe that it sells, but I'm sad that it does. oO I'm no hardcore music fan--I just like whatever happens to move me---but a lot of new hits are just repetitive, hammering the same tired lyrics about how I can't live without you, or our love will be forever, and so on and so forth---I mean, that's unfair to say because a lot of old songs used those themes too, but they did it with a lot more soul---and now it's just horrifying. : (

And that said, I think I know why I have mainly music from videogames and animation in my collection. oO; It's great that you have the oldies as a refuge from--not all, but a lot of the contemporary--well, poop--- that's been blasting on the radios lately. ^^ And I'm not one of those grumpy people that doesn't like rock---I actually do like metal. XD But not screaming metal---metal with soul---with instrumentals and not just angry guys screaming their lungs out. "RAAGHHH!! 666!!" and so on. X_X

XD So are all of the monsters in Dreamland under his dominion or are some of them on their own? oO I like how in Super Mario RPG, Bowser has armies of Goombas, Koopas, Terrapins (?), and Kameks, but the Shy-Guys are someone else's minions, and the Snifits are someone else's minions---by the way---a question to anyone who knows: Why do the Snifits wear gas masks? The TV series kind of wrecks the whole idea of Pokemon Yellow. Pikachu is finally restricted to his effectiveness to other Pokemon, as opposed to being an invincible force. I miss the serious team rocket too. I think it was about mid way either the second or first Pokemon series where their whole additude changed and they became nothing but bad jokes and a way to keep the plot going. Actually, Lupin has delt with animals before, in episode 88 of the red jacket series
(click to show/hide)
I guess to keep the series more friendly to children, they toned down the level of darkness in Pokemon. There are actually a lot of un-aired episodes in America, because of either severe violence and blood or something adult.

I hope so too. I really want to get Starfy when it comes out, and if that just sits around too, I don't know what I'll do. =( Luckly, there's an anime convention coming up in two weeks! It's actually more of a anime mall than an actual convention and they sell cheap anime products! More Lupin stuff!!! =D I play the Alto Saxophone and the Tenor Saxophone. =)

Exactly. No one trys to even stay consistent with a type of game style that could prove popular. Everyone wants more or to be the best. Kirby is the only character I play with in Brawl or Melee. I know how to kick but with him. =) I did take on characters like Snake, Fox, Bowser, and Marth. I think in Brawl, if Sonic jumps, he sometimes uses a springboard. I know what you mean, Sonic is nothing like his past design. =(

Yeah, they don't seem to slow down and really think about what they're doing. That's the kind of people that I have a problem dealing with the kind that tend to drink and so forth thinking it's a way to deal with problems, or the ones that just think it's cool or mature. There are some people that are of my age range that I can hang out with, I also have a large group of friends that are older than me that I can hang out with. Thanks Sad Cactus. =)

I think The Thousand Year Door Goombas are my favorite of all the ones that I've seen. They're not really mean or always the bad guy, and you can actually feel bad for them since they don't look as mean. I believe that they have fangs. =) The Mr. Men Show is awesome! =D I'm really glad that they're going to have a second season. =) I think Mr. Noisy plays the drums. Poor Mr. Quiet, know one ever hears what he has to say, especially when they're all shouting. I love it when Mr. Messy gets paired up with Mr. Persnickety and Mr. Messy always wrecks Mr. Persnickety clean room and such. I wish I had gotten to see the Circus episode, it is one of the few that I haven't seen yet. =( That's cool that you detect sarcasm in Mr. Happy and Little Miss Sunshine's voices. In the hotel episode, when Mr. Scatter Brain is trying to get Mr. Happy a room, Mr. Happy actaully starts to get angry at Mr. Scatter Brain. I was suprised actually. I agree, they are not as happy or full of sunshine as their names imply.

Well, I won't spoil it for you in case you're planning to see it. ^^ But right, Bob Bergen has been everywhere, wowww...Oo

I was really suprised too when I read his resume and discovered all of the movies and shows that I grew up with that he played voices in! I can't really recall Hunchback of Notre Dame since I don't have the VHS or DVD. =( He also played the squirrel in the Emporer's New Groove which really shocked me for some reason. I haven't seen Up yet. I really want to, and I've told my mom that it's a good movie from what I've heard. Now I really want to see it to find out how it would be so sad! Bob Bergen is the master of cartooniverse!

Yay for mold, well, depending if it's not on your food. That's why I can't get away from old music. Most of the stuff right now that's mainstream is bad. I just listen to "Disco Stick" and I couldn't finish it because it sounded so bad. X_X I'm glad that I'm not the only one that realizes that every song that comes out sounds the same or uses the same idea. I was thinking that today, how older songs used those themes more respectively than how it's a device in the modern music business. Recently, I've been collecting lots of old theme music and old unheard of artists since I can't find any decent new music. I like some metal that I hear, but it kind of has become where most of them just do scream and play loud. There's some that actually sound good, but the most I heard is all that "RAAGHHH!! 666!!" stuff. X_X

^^ Indeed. XD We need to get DrFurball back here to talk more about King Dedede. Is that their actual face? Oo

I would think that some monsters are free from his rule, but most of them are still mean. Yeah! Love to King Dedede! If the Super Mario RPG is NES or SNES, it can't answer that. Mabye DrFurball can! I never felt that Shy-Guys were Bowser's, but who's are they? I can't recall Snifits. =(
